Ross Emmett Brooks
Ross Emmett Brooks, 76, of 292 Second-st. SE, Carrollton, died Oct. 1 in his home after a long illness. A retired farmer, Mr. Brooks was born Dec. 12, 1885 in Union-tp., a son of the late David Thomas and Mary Jane (Rutledge) Brooks. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist church and was a trustee of the cemetery 33 years. He served 12 terms as a trustee of Union-tp. Mr. Brooks was a life resident of the county. Surviving are two brothers, James F. Brooks of Dellroy and Wilbur K. Brooks of Rt. 2, Carrollton and two sisters, Mrs. Jettie Coffy of Carrollton and Miss Theora Brooks of the home. A sister, Miss Bertha Brooks died in 1945. Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 pm in the Allmon funeral home with Rev. Charles A. Tulga officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

John E. Brooks John Elmer Brooks, 76, died Monday morning, January 15, in his home at Scio after a three-month illness. He was born in Union-tp., and had lived in Carrollton before moving to Scio 17 years ago. Mr. Brooks was a painter by trade and a member of the Methodist Protestant church at Palermo. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice Brooks; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Coffy of Bowerston, Mrs. Pearl Kurish and Mrs. Florence Snyder of Minerva and Mrs. Florence Wagner of Scio; four sons, Harry, Orlo and Clarence of Scio and Elgie Brooks of near Carrollton; two brothers, Richard of Bowerston and George Brooks of Canton and 16 grandchildren. Services were held yesterday afternoon in the M.P. church at Palermo with Rev. Charles Albright officiating, assisted by Rev. J.H. Longsworth. Burial was made in Palermo cemetery with the Arbaugh funeral parlors in charge.

A. Elmer Brooks Andrew Elmer Brooks, 77, of Carrollton, died Sunday, January 19, at Mercy hospital, Canton, where he had been a patient since January 6. He had been ill for several weeks. Mr. Brooks was born in Union-tp. , and after retiring from the farm in 1918, he moved to Carrollton. He was associated with his son-in-law, William Simmons in the Carrollton Trucking Co. Mr. Brooks was a member of Trinity Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elma Brooks; two daughters, Mrs. William Simmons and Mrs. Frank Pretty of Carrollton; a son, Chester Brooks of Carrollton, and seven grandchildren. Services were held yesterday afternoon in the home on North Lisbon-st. with Rev. J.H. Hose officiating. Burial was made in Grandview Cemetery with the Arbaugh parlors in charge.

Ferd C. Brooks
Ferd C. Brooks, 76, of 308 W. Main St., Carrollton, died Thursday afternoon in his home. He had been ill for two years. Born Feb. 4, 1889, in Union Twp., he was a life resident of Carroll County. The son of the late John Henry and Eliza Lindsey Brooks, he was a member of First Methodist Church here and a 50-year member of Petersburg Grange. Mr. Brooks served as a director of the Carroll County Farm Bureau Cooperative and of the Carroll Electric Cooperative. He was a past member of the Carrollton Exempted Village School District board of education and the Rationing Board during World War I. He was married Jan. 2, 1919, to Lena Mikesell, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George Manfull of Elyria; two son, Joseph H. of Circleville and Gilbert M. of Cleveland; a sister, Mrs. J.R. Tope of Minerva, and five grandchildren. One son and two brother's are deceased. Services were Sunday at the Allmon Funeral Home here with Rev. C.H. Achberger officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Jewett.

Matilda Bell (Rabe) Semple
Carrollton - Mrs. Matilda (Tillie) B. Semple, 87, who made her home with her daugher, Mrs. Adah Stratton of 410 2nd St. NW, died at the McCullough rest home in Canton Thursday (November 3, 1966) after an illness of six months. She had suffered a series of strokes. Her husband, Guy A. Semple, (of Sherrodsville) died March 1, 1914. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four sons, all of Canton. Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Allmon funeral home here. Burial will be in Leavittsville Cemetery, Calling hours Saturday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. William L. Brooks Mrs. Iva M. Brooks, 60, wife of William L. Brooks of Union-tp., died Monday, December 8, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Davis Fisher, near Scio, following a long illness. A native of Brown-tp., Mrs. Brooks was a life resident of Carroll-co. and a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist church. Besides her husband , she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Stahler of Harrison-tp., and Mrs. Fisher; two sons, Clarence of East Rochester and Earl Brooks of Scio; a sister Mrs. Minnie Lotz of Minerva and eight grandchildren. Services were held yesterday afternoon in the Fisher home and later in Mt. Pleasant church with Rev. J.H. Longsworth officiating.

Harvey C. Brooks, 68, of Rt. 3, Carrollton died Dec. 9, in Carroll co. hospital. He had been ill several months. Born July 3, 1898 in Union-tp., he was a retired employee of the Metropolitan Brick Co. at Malvern. Mr. Brooks was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist church and Fraternal Order of Eagles of Carrollton. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Maude Brooks of Carrollton; one brother, J. Raymond Brooks of Scio and three sisters, Mrs. Helen Conneway and Mrs. Adeline McFadden both of Carrollton and Mrs. Elizabeth Borden of Mansfield. Services were held Sunday at the Allmon funeral home with Rev. Howard Williams officiating. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant church cemetery.

Walter Brooks
Walter E. Brooks, 87, of Rt. 3, Carrollton, oldest lifetime resident of Union Twp., died June 12 at Canton Mercy Hospital. He had been ill for several months. Born June 18, 1875, in Union Twp., he was a son of the late James L. and Margaret Urie Brooks. Mr. Brooks was married July 1, 1895, to the former Olive Tope, who died July 10, 1960. They had operated the former Petersburg Telephone Co. exchange for a number of years. Mr. Brooks was a retired farmer and member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Tillman of Canton and Miss Bernice Brooks of the home; a son, Ralph P. Brooks, also of the home; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Three sisters are deceased. Services were Saturday in the Allmon Funeral Home here. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

Robert Herman Semple, 87, of Homossassa, Fla., died Monday at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born April 24, 1899 in Carrollton, a son of the late Guy and Matilda (Rabe) Semple. He had resided in Homossassa since 1968, moving there from Canton, where he was a truck driver for Republic Steel Co. He was of the United Methodist faith and is survived by two sons, Raymond and Wayne, both of Canton; two daughters, Evelyn Semple and Shirley Wachtel, also of Canton ; two brothers, Arbie Semple of Carrollton and Virgil of Crestland, Fla.; a sister , Mrs. Adah Stratton of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (Offak). Funeral services were held this Thursday at the Strickland Funeral Home chapel in Crystal River, Fla. with Rev. Mark Huggins officiating. Burial was in Stage Stand cemetery in Homossassa Springs, Fla.

Adah "Addie" Stratton, 89, formerly of 2nd St. NW, Carrollton, died Monday in Carroll Health Care Center. Born Dec. 28, 1904, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Matilda Rabe Semple. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Carrollton and a retired employee of the Free Press Standard of Carrollton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garner Stratton; two son, John and Jimmy Stratton; four brothers, Arbie, Virgil, Robert and Charles Semple; and a sister, Mergie Boyd. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Allmon-Dugger Funeral Home at Carrollton with Rev. Larry Lalama officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tonight from 7 to 9 in the funeral home.
