Do you celebrate family? Do the "littles" in your family get playtime with the "bigs"? Every year our family tries to gather the whole clan together and celebrate family! We call the event our "Family Olympics." Each individual family comes up with an original event and they supply all the tools necessary to complete the event. Each family creates a clan or family logo and t-shirt to wear during the events. Once we are all gathered the host cries out, "Let the events begin and the laughing commence!"
Everyone plays, Grandpas and Grandmas, Aunties & Uncles, Littles and Bigs! The fun and love is overwhelming. Last year's gathering was incredible, Micha and Angel came from New Mexico with Joseph and Christian, Brian and Jenny were present and accounted for with ShyAnne. Cole and Naomi were there as well as Justin and Jacob, six great-granchildren, Nine grandchildren, six "old folk" and, of course, The Elder Clansmen, Popo and Great-grandma! The gathering was in Modesto
at Papa and Mama's house. (Thanks Mike and Connie) Remember it is a celebration of family so keep expenses down. Events must be made up with stuff around the house...such as Hot Wheel Bowling! Hot Wheel Bowling: John & Becky's event where the contestants roll a small ball down a "hot wheels" road link suspended 3' in the air and try to bowl over as many of the empty soft drink cans lined up at the end of the alley much in the way pins are in bowling! This works great as long as none of the nephews ( or nieces) loads the cans with sand or rocks so they're too heavy to fall...who was that anyway! Each family plays as a
team, assisting each other in the events, adding their scores together and trying to
distract
Score is kept and after all is tallied awards are given to all. The highest scoring family wins the place of honor as hosts for the following year's event. Each family is given an award for something...that's fun just making up the categories! Of course, the awards are signed and dated by the Great-grandpa and the host of the events. Award certificates can be made on your computer or have the little kids make them with paper and crayon, or ribbon & paper plates! "There is no finer investment for a community than putting milk into
babies" A couple of new "grown-up" additions too! Welcome Angela, Sophia & Becky. |
