This is Ruth DeWitt Bukater (Frances Fisher) Rose's mother. Who was a society empress from one of the more wealthy family in Philadelphia. When her husband died he left the family no money so in her determination to salvage her wealth and good name Ruth wanted Rose to marry Cal a 30 year old scion of rich Pittsburgh family.

" I don't understand you. It's a fine match with Hockley that will insure our survival."

This is Margret "Molly" Brown (Kathy Bates) she was the wife of a mining millionare. She was intelligent but she had no background in high society and was called "new money."

" Son, do you have slightest comprehension of what you're doing?...... Well, you're about to go into the snakepit. What are you planning to wear?"

This is Thomas Andrews (Victor Garber) He was one of Titanics main designers he has supervised the complete building of Titanic and knew everything there was to know about her.

" She can stay afloat with the first four compartments breached but not five. As she goes down by the head, the water will spill over the tops of the bulkheads at E deck.... from one to next....... back and back. Theres no stopping it."

This is Caledon Hockley (Billy Zane) who was a son of a rich Pittsburgh family. He was to marry Rose and he found her a suitable young lady to play the role of his wife. As a wedding present for her he got her one of the largest and most expensive diamonds in the world known as the Coeur de la Mer once worn by Louis XVI. The heart of the ocean.

" Theres nothing I couldn't give you. Theres nothing I'd deny you if you would not deny me. Open your heart to me, Rose."

This is Bruce Ismay (Jonathan Hyde). A 50 year old managing director of White Star Line, he was one of the most powerful men in the shipping industry. Son of Thomas H. Ismay, who founded the line in 1869, Joseph Bruce Ismay had ascended to the management of the company with his brothers by the turn of the century. Bruce Ismay sailed on the Titanic on her maiden voyage confident that she was completly unsinkable without a single fault.

" The maiden voyage of Titanic must make headlines!"

This is the crew of the Titanic. The man in the middle is the captian E.J Smith (Bernard Hill). He joined white star line in 1880 and stayed with them for the rest of his life. He was popular with the crew and the passengers and after the Titanic sank he was scheduled to retire in glory.

" Thats right, the disstress call CQD. Tell whoever responds that we're going down by the head and need immediate assitance."

The old lady in the middle is Rose Dawson Calvert (Gloria Stuart.) She was 101 years old and one of the last survivors of the Titanic but she kept this a secret for 84 years and she probably would have died with this secret if it hadn't of been for Brock Lovett and his discovery of something he found 12,500 below the surface of the Atlantic ocean.

" A womans heart is a deep ocean of secrets."

Next to Rose is her grandchild Lizzy Calvert (Suzy Amis) she is an intelligent woman devoted to her grandmother Rose so noone is more surprised than Lizzy to find out about Roses secret life.

" You actually believe this is you, Grandma?"

Next to Jack is Fabrizio De Rossi (Danny Nucci.) A 20 year old Italian. He was a good friend of Jacks and was there at 11:55am when Jack won the tickets on Titanic in the "lucky hand at poker." This was a great joy to Fabrizio as he had dreams of being extremly sucsessful in America.

" I can see the the statue of Liberty already! Very small....... of course."

This is Spicer Lovejoy (David Warner) Valet and bodygaurd to Caledon Hockley. Who would do anything to protect the good name of his employer.

" Mr Hockley and Miss DeWitt Bukater continue to be most appreciative of your assistance. They asked me to give you this in gratitude........ and to remind you that you hold a third class ticket and that your presence here is no longer appropriate."

This is Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton.) A man with big dreams and who dreams of getting rich by finding the long lost diamond the heart of the ocean that was sopposed to have gone down with the Titanic.

" If your grandma is who she says she is, she was wearing the diamond the day Titanic sank. And that makes you my new best friend."
