Best Years

                               JUNIOR HIGH

John H. Woodson Jr. High was the place where I met mClass Picture 1993ost of the friends I have today. There I met John, Dyanne, Makeba, and others. I started attending John H. in 1990 a year after Hurricane Hugo.

We were in the same classes together. We had regular Middle school classes and some extra classes I'll call "experimental". Experimental because we were the first class to have them, partly because we were NERDS! Some of the experimental classes were Journalism and African History.

In journalism we created John H Woodsons' first newspaper we named "John H. Woodson Expressions". In the link you'll find some articles, later on you'll be able to find much more. The articles in our paper were about what happened around school, the honor roll list, Dear Abbey column, Puzzles, comics, and a school sports section. One of our article featured Dyanne, our Spelling Bee champion.

Dyanne at National Spelling Bee Dyanne Represented the Virgin Islands in the National Spelling Bee for 2 years in a row! She didn't get to represented us for more years because that was the limit allowed. Dyanne was an excellent speller and student. I participated in Spelling Bee's too, Spanish Spelling Bee, Regular Middle School SpellingJr. High Graduation Bee, and a Science Spelling Bee in the Science competition. We made it in 3rd place for the Spanish Spelling Bee, I didn't do good at all in the regular Spelling Bee, but I did come in 2nd place in the Science Spelling Bee. (GO FIGURE).

We graduated from Junior High on June 8, 1993. A couple days after graduation Makeba left for Texas.

                  HIGH SCHOOL

We attended St. Croix Central High School and during these years we made new friends with Wanda, Wendy, and others. We also we very active in school. Me with one of the Trophies

Nilaja, John, Dyanne, Wanda, and I were in the schools' Classical and Jazz Band. With the Bands we participated in  Festival Atlanta. Festival Atlanta was a competition against other Bands were we got a couple trophies and the Jazz  band even made it to 2nd place! Before we got to Atlanta we raised money to send the whole band by doing silent auctions and playing 'gigs' in different places. A link to an article from the St. Croix Avis about us.

Right after Festival Atlanta we participated in a Science Competition. That's were I came in 2nd (or 1st runner up) but my team won first place in the overall competition. We all got medals for that and I also got a trophy for the spelling part. I lost with the word Plankton! The members of my team were: Shakima Richardson, John Sewer, Dyanne Baptiste, Gillian Rose, Tiffany  Pennick, and Questen Issac. Here is an article form the St. Croix Avis if you don't believe me!

Not only were we involved iSt. Croix Central Jazz Band 1996n all kinds of things we were all members of the National Honor Society.  John being our preHigh School Graduation Picture.sident, Wanda our vice president. I was just a chairman of the Scholarship Committee. We didn't get to do much during our membership at the National Society mainly because         we were only members for one year. We did do an egg hunt for the unfortunate children in the Queen Louise Home.

We all graduated with Honors and in the Top Ten of our class. ( I told you we were nerds). We graduated on June 6, 1996 playing the Pomp and Circumstance with the Band. John was our Valedictorian and Dyanne was our Salutatorian.
