Fundoplication
Fundoplication is a procedure used when there is a frequent amount of reflux that cannot be controlled medically. Basically, it wraps the upper portion of the stomach around the lower part of the esophogus, thus preventing reflux or vomiting. It can be done in a variety of ways, ranging from partial wraps to a full 360 degree wrap. Depending on the situation, it can prevent vomiting, reduce vomiting, and it can even allow the passage of gas.
It is highly reccomended that testing be performed prior to this surgery, as it is a complex medical procedure. Some of the tests that can be done are: Gastric emptying studies, Upper GI, Endoscopy, Manometry, and a Ph Probe.
