Ground Hog Day really got its start to fame when in 1886 the Punxsutaney Spirit newspaper editor named a hunting group the Punxsutaney Groundhog Club. They called the groundhog the seer of seers. They said that if the groundhog comes out in sunlight and sees his shadow that he jumps back in his hole and its six more weeks of winter. If the groundhog comes up on a cloudy day and can't see his shadow, then spring will come early. In 1887, the first trek to Gobbler's Knob, Punxsutaney, Pa occurred. Every since then, Groundhog Day has become more and more popular every year. Can you guess what the groundhogs prediction will be this year? We are going to hold a contest. From now until Feb. 1, we want everyone to send there guesses in with your name and email address to Caitlin. If you guess right, you will receive the nifty award below for your site. Happy Groundhog Day! We had 5 winners this year, check back next year to play! Valentines index Couples game Who ate the chocolates?
