French Snack Idea

Make your own

Pain-au-Chocolat

Ever had pain-au-chocolat? You'd remember if you had! It's basically just chocolate and bread, but it's a favorite in France -- for kids and grown-ups, alike!

And now, it's easy to make your own pain-au-chocolat. Here's what you'll need:

*A package of ready-to-bake crescent rolls

*A package of chocolate chips
(You pick your favorite: dark or milk chocolate)

All you have to do: unroll the crescent rolls, add chocolate chips, and roll them up again any way you like. Then, bake as directed on the package. It's easy, and they're delicious, too.

You can experiment with different shapes. You don't have to make them look like crescent rolls. In France, they're usually rectangular or square. I've made logs and lumps, myself!

How to pronounce it:

le PAIN-AU-CHOCOLAT (masculine)
(pain = bread)

le = le (e = oo in good)
pain = piN (piN = pen with the en nasalized)
au = o (long o, short sound)
chocolat = sho-ko-lah
