Be Excellent to Each Other

To some people it's important to be in control,
to others looking good,
to some being important,
to others knowledge,
and for some being right;

But there's a world of difference
between being right and being righteous;

The other day someone asked me a detail about a job I was doing for them.
I tried to explain that I thought there was nothing to be concerned over;
this didn't satisfy the man, he needed to know.
Finally after about fifteen minutes of frustrating conversation
I told him I didn't have time for this
but that I would sit down and spend several hours going over it
IF it was that important to him.

What happened here is
he was more worried about the right answer
than trusting my expertise;

How often do we do this?
Being more concerned for  Correctness
than for the relationship?

I look at Jesus and the way He handled people and I see two things:
He made every effort to stay in right relationship ,
He had little tolerance
for those who chased after rightness (self-righteousness);
to Him Righteousness (right relation) was more important than rightness.

Where do I see this?
Every place. He wrestles with the Pharisees (the self-righteous)
and every place He reaches out for the sinner (the un-righteous).
What was Jesus doing?
He was pointing out the meaning of TRUE Righteousness;
He was demonstrating the UNITY of THE FAITH.

Believing in each other:
It's not as important that everyone be RIGHT
as it is that we be rightly related.

So, are you the kind of person who believes it is important to
...be in control ...be important
...be knowledgeable ...look good ... be right?
These things can be good but only if
they take second to being righteous.
So, be EXCELLENT to each other.
