Independent thinking does not belong to the man who thinks for himself
What this man does is take data and sort it according to his own thinking
Only when faced with overwhelming evidence
does he even reconsider his thinking
But even then his thoughts are 'dependent'
What are they dependent upon?
They are dependent upon the inclination of his heart
he sorts his thoughts according to his own beliefs
he is ingrained into a pattern of pride
Just like the little child who refuses assistance saying,
"I can do it", or "I know what I'm doing"
It is a fear of ignorance and rebellion against guidance
Fear often motivates those who call themselves 'independent thinkers'
to label anything that doesn't line up with their own thoughts
as the thoughts of those who can not think for themselves
They call it herd mentality
The false belief here is that acquiring data is independent thinking
This is herding of your thoughts
It is a sign of dependent thinking
as it becomes dependent upon the gathering of data
So what then is a truly independent thinker?
The independent thinker is....
able to divorce himself from his own thinking
able to forsake those thoughts that are not pure
able to lay down his own thoughts and picks up higher thoughts
looks to see were they are going and runs with them
he accepts only those things that are good and pure
His thinking is independent of his own pride
and is certainly not dependent upon data
It is free from the boundaries of his life
because it recognizes thoughts that are higher
The independent thinker is not the mind that thinks for itself
it is the mind that takes thoughts from elsewhere
it is an unconscious awareness
and through constant use is able to discern good from evil
{55:6} Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: {55:7} Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. {55:8} For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. {55:9} For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
