There are moments you want to cling to savoring, holding on, then they're gone There are moments you wish would pass by quickly awkward, difficult, you rush them by
Driving through the mountains of West Virginia and Maryland I felt a comfort in the beauty of the clouds clinging to the mountains shrouding them in mist
I felt a certain peace and restfulness to the pattering sound of the raindrops
I realized at that moment I had a choice This long drive alone could either be a moment I wished would pass by or a moment I could treasure
Obviously I picked treasure
In our daily rush we let so many moments fly by Like sand slipping through our hands And like sand it seems in our rush only the stickier moments cling to us
Why do we not take the time to brush away those sticky moments Not dismiss them, but deal with them With the same kind of love and passion that we would devote to a moment we treasure
In my rush that long drive could easily have been disturbing, especially once I came into the city and hit traffic, in the rain, during rush hour!
Yet somehow even in that, I found something to cling to Instead of cursing that car that cut me off Instead of being upset over the rain and traffic Instead of being worried about what I would do tonight, or how yesterday went I clung to the refreshing scent of the rain To the notion of going home from work that I sensed in the traffic To the realization that thank God at least one of us was paying attention and the possibility that the next time it might not be me, in the driver cutting me off
I've been on the mountain top when I could see clearly I've been on the mountain where I've felt on top of the world I've been on the mountain when the clouds hugged it and kissed it with cool breezes I've been on the mountain when the dew and the rain come
Next time I'm in the valley I wonder what will happen Will I cling to the moment or wish on by Will I treasure the sticky moment as well Will I take what I learned on the mountain with me into the valley? Perhaps I have, for certainly the long rainy drive through the mountains and the city traffic could easily been valleys
Some think Jesus left heaven to come to earth I'm certain he brought it with Him He carried it with his ministry He carried it to the Sermon on the Mount He carried it to everyone He met He carried it to the garden of Gethsemene He carried it to the cross He carried it to the grave He carried it to Hell He carried it to the throne of God He carried it back to us in His Spirit at Pentecost He carried it to me today
Heaven is a moment you carry forever A moment to cling to, hold on to, and not let by Do not store up for yourselves treasure that moths will eat or that will rust But store up for yourself "treasure in heaven" For where your treasure is, there also your heart will be
Everywhere I look I see pieces of heaven
