Which comes first, the Who or the Do
Are you who you are because of what you do?
Or do you do what you do because of who you are?
When we look at the world around us it speaks this way
the clothes make the man
image is everything
what we do determines who we are
a man is measured by his success
Where do I see that?
Hollywood
Washington, DC
the NBA and NFL
The Olympics
Ask someone who Tera Lipinsky is
Oh, she's the girl who won the gold
That's what she did
is that who she is?
Do you see things in yourself you'd like to do better?
Be more diligent, more articulate, harder working
Do you see things in yourself you'd like to stop doing?
Smoking, swearing, being lazy, over eating
Do these things determine who you are?
Or does who you are determine what you'll do?
Who am I
A question we all need to ask ourselves
a question that serves to stir the inner parts
a question we often avoid
sometimes we don't like who we are
we say we do
until we see some of the things we do
then we cover those parts up
because we're ashamed
If we change who we are does it change what we do?
In our hearts is where the answers all seem to lie
not in what we do
but in who we are
As for me
I'm just trying to discover who I am
and as I find those places in me that I don't like
those places that seem to cause me to do things I really don't like doing
I work on changing them
with God's help I am changing who I am
and it is changing what I do
the way I behave
So which is more important?
Which comes first?
Who you are or what you do?
One only needs to look as far as your loved ones to answer that
What's more important to you
What your child/spouse/parent/loved ones do
Or is it who they are that matters most
Perhaps we should see everybody that way
It would change the way we behave
What we do
It might change the way the world behaves
If we see everyone for who they are
Instead of for what just for what they do
