I grew up in Maryland
Living in Texas now it is this time of year
when I begin to miss the change of seasons
I miss the leaves turning brilliant autumn colors
I miss the purity of the first snow
We are constantly going through seasons of change
we wrestle with who we are
we wrestle with our relationship with Christ
we get dry and feel wind blown
maybe we wonder what it's all leading to
we begin to feel spent
If you've ever lived in snow country then you'll understand this
when that first snow comes
there's a scent to the air
not really a smell
sort of like a charge in the air
a crispness and an electricity
There's something about that first snow
the first freeze has come
the fall leaves have long since blown away
the trees are bare and the grass is brown
the earth looks lifeless and barren
Then comes the snow and everything is covered
in a soft pure white blanket
The beauty of that first snow
words don't do it justice
And when the snow was unexpected
the feeling is indescribable
Unexpected snow
when the Lord takes me through these times of change
that's how I feel
transformed and covered
that's what the snow does to the landscape
that's what He does to my life
He always does it in unexpected ways
just like the snow He comes unexpectedly
Unexpected snow, I like that
Today Jesus reminds me of Unexpected Snow
and in the spring
blooms a desert rose
