I asked for higher faith
He said I need deeper love
For a moment I saw myself as a small child
standing on the edge of a pool
My father saying, "jump, I'll catch you"
I jumped, knowing in my heart He loved me
I was on my way to Holland, my first time overseas
I was going alone, so I was understandably nervous
A friend prayed with me before I left
"fear not, be anxious for nothing
trust in the Lord and He will direct your footsteps"
On the way to the airport I ran into a friend
flying to Germany via Amsterdam
So I had comfort in getting to Holland
Then on the airplane I ran into a co-worker
going to the same town as I
So I had comfort in getting to my destination
For the next few days we spent our free time together
Then he went on to his next destination
I had realized that these two men had been a God send
But now for the next several days I would be alone in a foreign land
The only person I could relate much to was my Dutch host
The day my co-worker moved on
I had arranged to have dinner with my Dutch host
As we sat and talked I began
to feel lead to talk about the Lord
I waited for the conversation to steer itself
to where I might have an opening
It did, and so I said something about God
without directly mentioning God
To my astonishment my Dutch host announced his Christianity
To have deeper love I knew I would have to see God's love more deeply
"We love Him because He first loved us"
At that moment I realized that the higher faith I had sought had come
In the instant that my Dutch brother had announced his faith to me
I also heard God say something rather wonderful to me
He showed me how incredibly creative He is
How He is always finding new ways to say
"I love you"
When we hear it our faith grows
He had been saying I love you in the way He had ordered my footsteps
Comforting me every step along the way
I had finally heard Him and now my faith was increased
The disciples asked, "Lord increase our faith"
Jesus answered, "If you had faith as small as a grain of mustard seed"
From the seeds of love faith grows
When we hear our Father say,
"Jump, I'll catch you"
We also hear the words
"I love you"
and our faith grows
