BRADEN, MARTHA JANE  (Mrs John Wesley Braden)

Martha Jane Braden was born September 5th, 1860, and departed this life
April 21st, 1938, at 4 o'clock p.m. She had been in failing health several
years. She suffered an attack of the flu about two months ago, which caused
her death.
The deceased united in marriage with John Wesley Braden about sixty years
ago. To this union nine children were born. Four of these preceded their
mother in death. Two of them, a boy and girl, died in infancy. James Vence
died at the age of 14. Jesse Clarence, a World War veteran, died June 30,
1930, at the age of 35. Surviving sons and daughters are Marion and Lee, of
Stover; Nancy Jane Simmons, of Rocklin, Calif.; Minnie Jackson, of
Springfield, Mo.; Zella Critton, of Garden Grove, Calif.
Also surviving are several grand-children and great-grand-children.
Her husband died of a similiar illness last month--March 7th.
The only living sister is Mrs. Mary Ford of Pleasant Hill,Mo.
Mrs. Braden united with the Christian Church several years ago, remaining
a true member of same until her death,
Funeral services, held at the family home twelve miles south of Stover,
were conducted by Rev. E B Woods, Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the
Shiloh cemetery.
 

TAGGS, Mrs Wm. (Campbell)

Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. Taggs were held in Stover Sunday afternoon
at Bethany Church, Rev. Hunt officiating.
Mrs. Taggs died at the Warrensburg Medical Center Wednesday of last week.
With family members she had started for Storm Lake, Iowa to attend funeral
services for a son, Wm, Taggs, who died at Storm Lake Monday of last week.
Arah Bell Taggs was born June 3, 1859, in Benton County. She was a
daughter of Houston and Eliza Palms Campbell. She is survived by her husband
and the following daughters and sons----
Mrs. Edgar Avis of Knobnoster,Mo., Mrs. Wm Angel,Cimeron, New Mexico; Mrs.
Victor Griffin, Wister, Oklahoma; Mrs. Robert Bancroft, Warrensburg,Mo.,
Mrs. Mary Guinn, Gashland,Mo., Ray Taggs,Cimeron, New Mexico; Lloyd Taggs,
Sioux City,Ia., Edward Taggs,of Minnesota.
Another son, William Taggs, passed away at Storm Lake,Iowa June 1st,1959.
Born in Benton county, Mrs. Taggs spent most of her lifetime in Morgan
county, south of and in Stover. For the past several years, Mr. and Mrs.
Taggs had resided in the east part of the Ted Priesmeyer building. Future
plans for Mr. Taggs have not been decided on. At the present because of his
feeble condition, a daughter, Mrs. Bill Angel, is staying with him.

CAMPBELL, ELVIST

Elvist Campbell, who was well known around Stover, passed away Friday
night,July 16th,1954. He had been in failiing health for quite some time.
Elvist had made his hoome in St. Joseph for the last fourteen years.
Elvist was the eldest son of Elisha(Palmes) and Houston Monroe Campbell.
He was married to Dorothy Silvey December 18th,1921, and to this union eight
children were born, namely; Cloyd, Nadine(Mrs. Glen Gady), Kenneth,
Glen(Toots), Ella Jane(Mrs. Delbert Bird), Cloetta(Mrs. Jimmie McFadden),
Grover Lee and Roy Don of the home.
He leaves his wife and six children, seven grandchildren, two sisters,
Mrs. John Moon of Springfield, Mo.,Mrs. William Taggs of Stover,Mo., three
brothers, Orley of Versailles; Hershell of Leeton,Mo., and Colvin, address
unknown. He also leaves cousins and in-laws and friends that were sorry to
hear of his passing.
Those that have preceded him in death are his parents, two sons, Kenneth
who passed away Oct. 1935, Glen(Toots) who was killed when thrown from a
motorcycle in May 1948, twin granddaughters, Glenda and Linda Bird in August
1948.
Elvist was converted a few years ago and was a faithful member to his
church when heath permitted him to go. His testimonies for the Lord made you
know that he was a converted man.
He will be greatly missed by loved ones and friends. The people of this
community extend their sympathy to the bereaved loved ones.
 

CAMPBELL, CORD
CORD CAMPBELL DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
Cord Campbell, brother of Mrs. William Taggs of Stover, died unexpectedly
last week in North Carolina. He resided south of Stover for several years.
Mr. Campbell was in his 54th year. He was buried at Norfolk, Va., which was
his home, Saturday, April 30th.
 

THOUVENEL, FLORENCE LOU NETTIE (Pittman) (Mrs. C.C. Thouvenel)
FUNERAL OF FLORENCE LOU NETTIE THOUVENEL
Florence Lou Nettie Thouvenel, daughter of Fredrick W and Mary Pittman,
was born March 24,1879 near Ionia, Mo., and passed away October 5, 1953 at
the Windsor Hospital, Windsor,Mo. At the time of her passing she was 74
years, 6 months and 11 days old.
On March 8, 1908 she was united in marriage to C C Thouvenel. To this
union one son, Fred, was born.
She was united with the Antioch Baptist Church near Ionia at the age of
thirteen. Her membership remained there until her death.
From the time of her marriage she and her husband lived on a farm in the
Pleasant Union-Boylers Mill neighborhood until his death, February 4, 1946.
She then made her home with her sister, Miss Frances Pittman in Ionia.
Besides her son, Fred Thouvenel, she leaves her sister, Miss Frances
Pittman of Ionia; two brothers, I. T. Pittman of near Ionia and J.M. Pittman
of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren. Mrs Jack Snorgrass, Kansas
City,Mo., Mrs. Clayton Holland, Kansas City, Kansas; and Cloyd Thouvenel of
near Stover; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and
many friends.
Mrs Thouvenel was a good neighbor and friend, always willing to lend a
helping hand. She was held in high esteem in the neighborhood where she had
lived for so many years. We cannot call her back but we can meet her in the
Land where God wipes away all tears, where there is no death, neither sorrow
nor crying.
Funeral services were held from the Stover Baptist Church, October 7 at
2p.m., Dr. Roy F Williams, officiating. A mixed quartette composed of Mrs
Cournal Carter, Mrs Harold Hughes, Emir Prather and Ernest Hughes sang
"Beyond the Sunset", "My Latest Sun" and "Going Down the Valley". They were
accompanied at the piano by Mrs Clarence Edzards. Pallbearers were Albert
Aulgar, Enloe Williams, Ernest Hughes, Cournal Carter, Paul Wilson and Cloyd
Smith. Interment was in the Stover Cemetery under the direction of the
Stevinson Funeral Home.
 
 
 

COWELL, JOHN SR.

John Andrew Cowell, son of the late Andrew and Mary Cowell, was born in
Putnam County, Missouri July 3, 1872. He departed this life January 31,
1961, having attained the age of 88 years and 6 months.
On October 25, 1896 he was united in marriage with Miss Lotta Campbell. To
this union two children were born. His wife and infant son prceded him in
death.
On July 11, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Christian.
To this union one daughter was born.
His wife passed away Sept. 7th, 1949.
Mr. Cowell was a member of the Shiloh Christian Church. He leaves to mourn
his death, two daughters,Mrs Atwell Hartman and Mrs. Lee Braden, where he
made his home. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
John Andrew was the last of a family of 13 children.
Funeral services were conducted February 3rd, 1:30 p.m. at the
Scrivner-Stevinson Funeral Home. Rev. James DeLong officiating. Burial was
in Shiloh cemetery.
