MRS. EARL BLACKMAN
MRS EARL BLACKMAN DIES IN SEDALIA HOSPITAL
On Friday, November 8, 1929, at eleven o'clock at the St Marys
Hospital in Sedalia,
there appeared a dark shadow and when it had faded it had taken from
us a dearly
beloved friend, Mrs Earl Blackman, (nee Opal Irene Rapp). Opal Irene
Rapp was born
July 24th,1906, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Rapp, who
reside south of
Stover. Irene, as she was known to almost everyone, attended the rural
school in that
district and after her graduation she entered the Stover High School
in 1921. It was here
that the writer had the privilege of her companionship. On December
18, 1927 she was
united in marriage to Mr Earl Blackman, son of Mr and Mrs E.G. Blackman
of the
Pleasant Union neighborhood. After their marriage this young couple
took up their abode
on a farm near the brides parents, where they resided until Mrs Blackmans
recent illness
which caused her death. When such happy marriages as this are broken
up by death we
are sorely tempted to complain to the all wise creator, but surely
he knows best.
She was taken to the Sedalia hospital October 30th where she underwent
an operation
and for a few days seemed to be recovering, but ten days later passed
away, death was
caused by inflamation of the heart. "Remember now thy Creator in the
days of thy youth"
Eccl,12:1 must have been Irene's motto, because she was a girl whom
lived such an
exemplary life; one whom young people would do well to model. "Then
shall dust return
to earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it"
Eccl. 12:7; surely this
is our consolation, we who are left in this great sorrow. During the
year she attended
High School here she was united with the Stover Baptist church of which
she was a most
devoted member. This step prepared her to live a Christian life, never
stepping from the
path as years passed. The funeral was conducted by Rev Maxwell at the
Baptist church,
Sunday morning, he being the pastor there when Irene took her church
memebership. He
was assisted by Rev Wolfe of the M.E. Church. The large crowd which
attended these
last rites certainly bespeaks of her high esteem, and the large mass
of floral offerings, the
sympathey of the many relatives and friends. Burial was in the Stover
cemetery. She
leaves to mourn her untimely departure her devoted husband; her parents;
two sisters,
Alice and Alva Louise; three brothers, Delmar, Raymond and Robert;
the paternal
grandparents, Mr and Mrs John Rapp; the maternal grandmother, Mrs Elizabeth
Brown;
many uncles and aunts and other relatives. The pallbears were her cousins,
namely; Mrs.
Naomi Gehrs, Mrs Cleola Wiest, Mrs Alva Small, Miss Ila Mae Rapp, Miss
Montia
Taylor and Miss Wilma Yonkers. Mrs Gehrs and Mrs Wiest also sang a
very beautiful
duet, "Beyond the Shadows" Irene lived such a Christian life and we
are sure that she
would have us take the following words as a consolation:
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark
And may there be no sadness
of farewell when I embark.
For though from out the bourne of time and place,
The flood may bear me far.
I hope to see my Pilot face to face,
When I have crossed the bar.
