Harman Chester Braden was born in Morgan County, Mo, Oct. 8,
1880, the son of Albert and Margaret Braden. He passed away at Kidwell
Rest Home in Versailles October 13th, 1961 at the age of 81 years.
On December 22, 1902 he was united in marriage to Parlee Forth.
To them three sons were born. Mrs Braden preceded him in death in 1949.
On March 16th, 1954 he was united in marriage to Priscilla Stahl, who survives.
Mr Braden was a retired farmer. He spent his entire life in
the Stover community. He was a Deacon in the Baptist church and was a charter
member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of the home. two sons, Everett of
Crescent City, Calif; Herbert of Stover, one brother, Gilford of Sedalia;
four grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, six brothers
and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Sunday Oct. 15,1961 at 2:00pm
at Mt Calvary Baptist church with Rev James DeLong officiating. Interment
was in the Shilo Church cemetery under the direction of Scrivner-Stevinson
Funeral Home.
Crenshaw, Mrs. James I (Minnie Frances Miller)
MRS MINNIE CRENSHAW DIED SUNDAY
Mrs. Minnie Crenshaw, age 63, died at her home in Stover Sunday
afternoon. Death was due to a heart condition.
Mrs. Minnie Frances Crenshaw, oldest daughter of David F and
Ida Elizabeth Miller, was born on November 13, 1900, at Dell, MO.
She was united in marriage with the late James I Crenshaw March
11, 1917. This marriage was blessed with six children, three daughter and
three sons. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughter, one
granddaughter
and one niece.
Those surviving are a daughter, Mrs Alice Marie Brunjes of Stover,
Mo; three sons, Clyde E and James F Crenshaw of St Joseph, Mo; Howard I
Crenshaw of Blue Springs, Mo. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs Georgia Vansell
of Versailles, 5 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eleven nieces and
nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs Crenshaw united woth the Church of Christ at Edwards, Mo.
in 1961.
She will be sadly missed by her family whom she loved and cherished
and to whom she devoted her life.
Wednesday afternoon at Stover Methodist Church with the Rev
P.H. Wilbanks officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Union Church cemetery.
Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased--Alvin, Clayton, William,
Franklin, Eugene and Leonard Vansell.
Mrs Merle Lynde of Windsor sang tow of Mother Crenshaw's favorite
hymns--"Amazing Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset"
Sanders, Mrs. Ruben B. (Matilda Ann)
Matilda Ann Sanders, age 94, died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs Oscar Gerhart, south of Stover at 3:15am May 14th, 1958. She had been
in failing health several years. She reached the remarkable age of 94 years,
11 months
and 27 days.
On Feb 21,1892, she was united in marriage with Ruben B. Sanders
who preceded her in death Oct 27, 1931. She was also preceded in death
by her two oldest children, Katie Stringer and John Richard Sanders. She
is survived by four sons; Ben of Stover, Willie of Mokane, Mo., Manuel
of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Robert of Versailles and by five daughters Mrs. Anna
Frisbie of St Joseph, Mo., Mrs Oscar Gerhart of Stover,, Mrs W N Webb,
Eldon, Mo., Mrs. C V Winningham, Henrietta, Mo and Mrs Edith Simmons, Pacific,
Calif.
At the time of her death Mrs Sanders had the following known
living descendants, besides the 9 living children--- 50 grandchildren;
113 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren, besides a host
of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Locust Baptist Church May 17th.
Mrs Sanders had been a member of Locust Church almost 45 years.
Interment was in St Paul cemetery three miles south of Stover, besides
the remains of her husband.
Cowell, Mrs. John (Ida Zelma Campbell)
Funeral services for Mrs Ida Zelma Cowell, 79, who died at Golden
Age Nursing Home in Stover on May 3,1970 were held at the First Baptist
Church in Stover, Tuesday May 5.
Mrs Cowell was born on May 18, 1891, the daughter of the late
James and Margaret Campbell Allen. She was married on Dec 10,1913 to John
Cowell.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Jewell Cowell of Stover;
two brothers, Ira Allen of Long Lane and Arthur Allen of Sedalia, one sister,
Mrs Otis Gregory of Stover and two grandsons Robert and Gary Cowell.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev Leroy Erzinger, and pallbearers
were Enloe Williams, Cloyd Smith, Buck Webb, Claude Braden, Linnie Capps
and Neal Campbell. Burial was in the Stover Cemetery.
Cowell, John A.
John A Cowell, 81, a life long resident of Morgan County, died
at Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia on May 25 following a short illness.
He underwent an implant for a heart pacemaker at Bothwell Hospital
in early February, but death was due to other causes. His wife the former
Ida Allen died at Golden Age Nursing Home on May 3rd.
Mr Cowell was born July 25, 1898 in Morgan County, the son of
the late Frank and Mary Cowell.
Surviving are a son, Jewell Cowell of Stover, and two grandsons
Robert and Gary Cowell both of Stover.
Memorial services were held at the First Baptist Church Thursday
afternoon with the Rev Leroy Erzinger officiating. Burial was in the Stover
cemetery.
Pallbearers were Claude Braden, Cloyd Smith, Buck Webb, Enloe
Williams, Lennie Capps and Conrad Braden.
Cowell, Glen Oral
Glen Oral Cowell, son of John and Ida Cowell, was born in Morgan County
on Dec 29, 1919 and passed away at the home of his parents on Feb 16, 1961.
He attained the age of 41 years, one month and 17 days.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Glen is survived by his parents and one brother, Jewell Cowell,
of the home, and many other relatives and friends.
Braden, Mary Levena
Mary Levena Braden, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Braden of Stover, was
born June 18, 1929, and passed away May 14, 1953, attaining the age of
23 years, 10 months and 26 days.
Levena was physically handicapped, due to paralysis which she
suffered during her entire life. She was preceded in death by two sisters,
Lois and Anna Mae. She is survived by her parents and also by three sisters--Mrs
Miriam Wilson of Stover, Mrs Norma Lee Davis of North Kansas City and Violet
of the family home.
Also surviving is her grandfather John Cowell, Sr., three neices
and a nephew, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Stevinson Funeral Home Saturday,
May 16th at 1:oopm Rev J.N. DeLong officiating. Burial was in the Shilo
cemetery.
Tagetmeyer, William Frederick
William Frederick Tagtmeyer, son of Louis Tagtmeyer and his wife
Louise nee Fischer, was born August 27, 1894 on the old Tagtmeyer home
place about two miles west of Stover; he passed away October 28, in St.
Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., after a breif illness, having attained
an age of 61 years, 2 months and 1 day.
On September 2, 1894, he was baptisted in the name of the Triune
God by the Rev C.H. Proehl and on May 31,1908, he was confirmed by
the Rev William Ludwig, who who chose this memory verse for him: "I am
persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is Christ Jesus our Lord," Rom. 8,38,39. This passage comforted the
desceased in his difficulties of life and crossbearing. May it be our comfort
also at this time.
The deceased was a faithful member of St. Paul's Luthern Church
all his life time. He served the congregation in various positions of trust
as: assistant treasurer formany years and in his last years as cemetery
comittee-man and as elder. As a member of the church council he gave many
hours of his time to his church. And seeking furthur to service his church
and his Savior he joined the Lutheran Laymen's League and rendered his
last work of love through this medium.
In 1910, the deceased moved to Stover with the family and was
employed in the Fischer&Tagtmeyer Hardware Store. He followed the call
to the colors during WWI, but was kept from serving overseas by severe
sickness, which weakened him for life. After his father's death he took
his place in the store and held it in full partnership with his cousin,
Leo F. Fischer, at the time of his death.
The deceased was very active in the community and city, working
for their welfare and progress as a bank director, special road district
committee man as well as through his membership in the American Legion
and Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
Those who remain to mourn his death are his sisters, Selma,Pauline,
Hulda and Erna Tagtmeyer of the home and Mrs Elda Kuecker, the wife of
Rev Arthur Kuecker of Farley,Mo., as also a host of other relatives and
friends.
Many relatives and friends placed memorial wreaths in loving
memory and to the glory of God for various church and charitable purposes.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct 30, in St Pauls
Lutheran Church, the Rev J.C. Schedler, preaching on John 13,7 and Job
1:21. Interment was made in St Pauls Cemetery under the direction of the
Stevinson Funeral Home.
Sanders, Mrs. Ruben B (Matilda Ann)
Matilda Ann Sanders, age 94, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Oscar
Gerhart, south of Stover at 3:15am May 14th, 1958. She had been in failing
