Ward, Ida Pearl
SERVICES FOR IDA PEARL WARD
Ida Pearl Ward, daughter of David and Margaret Herlocker, was born in
Wakonda, South Dakota, on October 11, 1880, and passed away January 24, 1958, after a
lingering illness. She was 77 years old.
On December 23, 1896, she was united in marriage to Arthur Ward, who
preceded her in death on January 2, 1955, and one son who died in infancy. In 1910 Mr
and Mrs Ward and family came to Missouri, making their home on a farm in the Pleasant
Union neighborhood. They were very active in community life there, and were leaders in
church work, uniting with the Pleasant Union Methodist Church while Rev. Zeidler was
the minister there. At times, Sunday school and church were held in their home, also
other church activities.
Upon moving to Stover, their membership was placed in the Stover Methodist
church. Here again, they were leaders in church work. Mrs Ward was a Sunday school
teacher for many years. She was truly a teacher who loved her Lord, who witnessed for
Him, who loved serving Him. She interested others in forming our first Ladies'
Missionary Society. It was her idea that we take a "Love Offering" at our WSCS
meetings. The WSCS gave her the first Life Membership pin that we had ever given. The
World Day of Prayer had a special meaning to her.
She enjoyed working in the Home Department also. She took church literature,
jars of Jelly, cake and made a friendly visit with all those who were unable to be at
regular services. Teenagers in our Sunday school remember the popcorn balls that Mrs
Ward used to bring for a special treat. These are examples of her living and serving.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Robin Bohling of Versailles, Mrs. Blanche
Roberts of Tarkio, and one son Rev. A. Sterling Ward of Chillicothe, also one sister, Mrs
Susie Reber of South Dakota. Also nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren
and many friends.
Services were held last Wednesday at 1pm at the Stover Methodist Church,
with the Rev DeVries officiating. Funeral arrangements were by the Stevinson Funeral
Home.

"Only God can know the sorrow our hearts conceal; gone are the smiles we
loved so dear. Also the voice we loved to hear. It was all so sudden; tried
to ease his pain and suffering; tried to cool a fevered brow; when all
efforts seem to fail us, God stepped in and took command. Then our hopes
began to vanish; helplessly we stood by, with sad hearts we each surrendered
to the will of Him on high. For we knew he must of needed, one more angel
pure and sweet. In Heaven to walk the Golden Streets. Each time we think
about him and the happy hours we knew, it will be the bonds of loving memory
now to keep him close anew."
Sadly missed by Mrs Brown, Kenneth, Eula and Judy.
