Several ratings systems have been developed. None of them are very visual in nature. It would be nice to know when we get somewhere what type of content we can expect. The following system has incorporated (loosely) the already existing ratings system now used for films and television.

The aim is to place a small icon within the opening frame of a page thereby visually confirmation how your page is rated. So be on the lookout for the following icons. Most pages linked from this site are not rated by any method so I have rated them accordingly. Please use these as an adjunct to whatever rating system you subscribe to.

Simply then:

• ...General (suitable for all ages)
  Use this if there is NO nudity, NO violence (*special dispensation*), NO racial or ethnic slurs, NO religious attacks against anyone. If the page is purely for sales then the $ Commercial rating must be used.
  * Special * For websites dealing with disabilities a truthful and frank statement of how a disability came about is permitted. These statements are for awareness and education only and cannot go into details. NO images of the scene or incident are permitted.
• ...For Youth and/or By Youth
  This rating conforms to the G rating except it is directed at children. It CANNOT include sales or requests for money.
• ...Parental Guidance (ok for older teens)
  Frank and honest discussion of world events permitted but must follow guidelines set in the G rating. Commercial pages permitted but must state that anyone under 18 years of age needs parental approval.
• ...Commercial Sales (NOT for children)
  Webpages for direct sales where exchange for money or credit information is involved but falls under the rules of G and PG rating. It cannot include topics under the X rating.
• ...Adult Content (NOT for children)
  Any type of nudity, racial, ethnic or religious attacks, newsgroups / usenets or chat-room (even those for children) must carry this rating. Any other rating is not permitted.

If you like this visual method feel free to use it. You may use this in conjunction with any other system you are presently using.

Please be truthful and display it in a prominent place so it is visible within the opening frame.
