Today Gomel on a population (515,5
thousand), area of territory (116 Sq.km) and industrial manufacture is the second city
Belarus after capital. It is the large industrial, scientific, cultural, sports centre,
transport unit of republic. The city is divided into four administrative - territorial
areas: central, Soviet, Railway and Newbelits. In city 628 streets and lanes, 16 transport
overpasses and bridges.
