THE STORY OF MYSELF
This story begins on October 11th, 1969 which is the day I was born. I was born in the fishing town called Hafnarfjörður which is situated in the south-west of Iceland. My parents are Friðbjörg Ragnarsdóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson. I've got 3 brothers; Jóhann Þór, Ragnar Steinþór and Friðjón Viðar who are all older than I am. You can just imagine being the youngest and the only girl as well. :)
I was brought up in Hafnarfjörður and I never experienced moving as a kid. My father has a little fishing boat and I loved going out with him fishing as a kid. Living at the seaside produced a lot of good adventures for big minds.
My childhood passed quite peacefully - I was a very easygoing child and teenager. After finishing shcool in 1985 I was quite sure what I wanted to do. I wanted to become either an economist or to work with business. So, I started the Commercial College of Iceland in 1985. After graduating from there in 1989 I didn't quite know what I wanted to do with my life. I knew for sure that I didn't want to work with anything business related. (Imagine how fast those things change). I was thinking of becoming a teacher but decided to put it on hold and try to get some working experience with children. So, in 1989 I started working at a day care centre in Hafnarfjörður.
I really loved the time working at the day care centre so I finally decided that this is what I want to do. In autumn 1990 I started studying at the Nursery Teacher's College in Iceland from where I graduated in 1993. Right after the graduation I returned to my work at the day care centre where I worked up until November 1997.
In 1996 I finally got to know the man I knew I would spend the rest of my life with. His name is Rúnar Páll Brynjúlfsson. We got engaged at Christmas 1996. At the beginning of 1997 we moved in with each other and have been living together since then. We live in a lovely little flat in Reykjavík.
On November 28th our little girl, Hjálmfríður Bríet was born. This was a great joy and being with her the whole day is a very precious gift to me. Right now I'm on maternity leave which will last for at least 6 months. The change in ones life when having a child is enormous but it's all worth the sleepless nights, etc. Giving birth to my daughter and starting a family are definately the highlights of my life so far.
