Don't parents have a responsibility for the children they bring into the world ?
Why was an 8 month old baby left, alone, in the hands of a teenager ?
These are all questions that need to be addressed.
The Eappens could have afforded professional care for their children, after all, one is an anaesthesiologist and the other an opthalmologist ... hardly poorly paid professions.Deborah Eappen decided to return to her career, instead of looking after Matthew and her older son. Was this because she never really wanted them ? Did they get in the way of her career ? Why didn't they pay for a properly qualified "nanny".
Perhaps, in the light of this case, society will have to look again at family matters, and decide which is more appropriate ... a decent family upbringing for their kids or one where kids are looked after by "nannies" and the roles of the true parents are diminished. Also, with the litigatious society we are now in, "nannies" will need to have proper indemnity insurance and qualifications. What about the casual "baby-sitting" which is done by teenagers. Should this be outlawed ? What happens to them if a baby in their care suffers an injury ?
