RIBBONS AND LACE HAT ORNAMENT
MATERIALS
3" Styrofoam ball cut in half
1/4 yard of cream brocade fabric
10" of cream gathered lace
5/8 yard of cream Chinese braid
7/8 yards of 4mm pearls-by-the-yard
1/3 yard of wide cream pleated sheer
1/3 yard of narrow cream pleated sheer
1 2/3 yard of 3/8" gold edge ribbon
1/4 yard of 7/8" wire edge ribbon
6" circle heavy cardboard
1/8" cream satin ribbon
low temp glue gun and sticks
craft needle, needle and thread
INSTRUCTIONS
From fabric, cut one 7" circle and two 6" circles. To form hat brim, glue 7" fabric circle to one side of cardboard circle. Clip and turn back excess fabric and glue to opposite side of circle. Glue one 6" fabric circle to opposite side of cardboard circle. Cut a 10" length of 1/8" ribbon and glue to edge of brim for hanger. Glue Chinese braid around covered circle, covering all raw edges. Run gathering stitches around edge of remaining 6" fabric circle. Cover half ball with fabric, tighten gathering stitches and glue to secure. Glue gathered lace and pearls around edge of covered half ball then glue to hat brim. Gather wide pleated sheer on 1/8" ribbon, pull ribbon tight and knot. Glue to hat brim for streamer. Cut two 12" lengths of 3/8" ribbon. Glue ribbon lengths and remaining pearls on top of wide pleated sheer for streamers. Gather narrow pleated sheer on 1/8" ribbon, pull tight and knot. Glue over streamers. Form remaining ribbon into small 4-loop bow with long streamers. Glue on top of narrow pleated sheer. To form ribbon rose, knot one end of wire-edge ribbon. From opposite end, pull one wire to gather. Wrap gathered ribbon around knot to create rose. Glue rose to center of bow.
