VP-54 / VPB-54 War Diary
Introduction and Explanations
by R.O.
Blankenship
The following is a part of the material that I have received from various sources since I have become active at the VP/VPB54 reunions in 1973 at New Orleans. I have tried to arrange it in a meaningful order so that the information is useful. If I have introduced any errors into this project due to typographical errors, I apologize for that.
The sources for this material has been varied and I hope that I can remember all of those who contributed information. First some of it was from Eddy Ensslin before his death and I'm sure that if he were still alive he could provide immeasurable assistance in making sense out of some of the material from the archives which were poor copies and in some cases unreadable in parts.
The majority of the other information comes from Ernest Kendall and Willie Sneed. Ernest has provided me with photocopies and microfilm of everything he has and my appreciation goes to Willie and Jump Sneed and their family who put up with me so much and allowed me to have free access to his files. I know what follows is not anything like what is available and I only hope to eventually expand this booklet if there is enough interest and if God gives me the time and patience to do it. I feel it is a very good way to find out about those things that were going on that we as individuals (specifically the enlisted men who just never got the word) had no way of knowing. If my efforts meets with your approval that is my reward, and if not I'm sorry and will try to do better next time. As I welcome all comments and suggestions, the next version will then be more of a group effort.
Enjoy this and please pass along any suggestions or criticisms. (I have a thick skin so have at it.)
