MY STATE BIHAR

Map of Bihar

In the federal structure of India Bihar (now devided into 2 states of Bihar & Jharkhand) is the second most populous state next only to Uttar Pradesh (also bifurcated now). Bihar including Jharkhand sends 54 members to National Parliament. Bihar & UP together (some times called Hindi heartland or may be cow belt) most of the time decide on the composition of the National Government of India. All except one prime minister belonged to this region only. Bihar, has been so named after the Budhist VIHARA (Budhist's Ashram or convent) This premier state of India has a distinct past, most discussed present and a very good future ( my prophecy). The CHAKRA in the centre of Indian flag is taken from one of the Asokan Pillars at Lauria Areraj in north west Bihar. Bihar has given the world the religion of peace known as Budhism. Jainism has also a lot of links in Bihar. Rajgriha ( ie present day Rajgir), was a central place in the polity of Indian sub-continent when Bhudha & mahaveera were born. Stories of Agulimala are of that time. It is said that Agulimala, a dreaded dacoit was brought in the main stream by Lord Budhdha. Bihar also boasts of Vaishali (now a District is named as Vaishali), the oldest democracy on earth (6th Century BC). This was the place, where a fiercely fought battle between a mornarchy (of Ajatsatru) & democratic state of vaishali for a city dancer, who enjoyed constitutional status led to the understanding of supremacy of religion & peace. When Alexender had reached India on his win the world mission, he was invited by one young person Chandragupta Maurya, to proceed to Pataliputra, where a powerful but inefficient empire of Nanda dynasty ruled. Later on this young person started the powerful Maurya Dynasty, who ruled India from Pataliputra (present day Patna). Ashoka the Great, who's influence is supposed to the in the far east,in Nepal, Sri Lanka, present day Afghanistan (Kabul, Kandhar) etc, was grandson of Chandragupta. Ancient historians and contemporary travellers have rated the palace of Chandragupta Muurya at Pataliputra (remains can be seen at a place called Kumharar in Patna) as being more beautiful & better in splendour than the palace of Accra. Ancient universities of Nalanda & Vikramshila (detroyed during the Khilji's regime) were fine places of leaning situated at Nalanda & near Bhagalpur. Present day Bihar provides the country by about 60 % of its mineral wealth, with the best manpower (whole world benifits from the hard working, sincere & intelligent work force from Bihar benifits the whole world .. within the country wealthy Punjab is an example). The agricultural land of Bihar particularily north of Ganga is very fertile. The state is rated second in agricultural & horticultural produce in the country. Best variety of mango (Langra or Dudhiya maldah), licchis from Muzaffarpur & Bananas of Hajipur are real treats from nature. a Bihar is the only other state in India which has 2 integrated steel plants (at Bokaro & jamshedpur). Bihar's neighbouring state West Bengal has 2 steel plants at Durgapur & at Burnpur.
