GOLGOTHA

Golgotha - "The Skull"

Next to the Garden Tomb is a rocky cliff that resembles a skull's face - with caves marking the eyes, nose, and mouth. British General Gordon thought this was "Golgotha" or the place of the skull (Matt. 27:33; Mark 15:22; John 19:17), where Jesus' crucifixion took place. The discovery of a nearby tomb further supported Gordon's identifcation.

And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
Matthew 27:33

And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
Mark 15:22

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
John 19:17
