November is here and Halloween is over. Christmas seems to be creaping up on us.
But there is a very important holiday that seems to be pushed back further into the
background with each passing year. Yes, it's Thanksgiving. Let's turn off the
football game and push away from the table for a few minutes to reflect on the bounty in our lives.

The Mayflower Compact was signed in November, 1620, to establish a colony in the New World. A group of Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock after six weeks at sea. For more information on these courageous travelers look at the The Mayflower Web Pages. After a grueling first winter where many of the original Pilgrims died, the new settlement was befriended by the Wampanoag Indians. The Wampanoag Indians helped the new settlement to flourish. The settlement known then as Plimoth Plantation was able to prepare for another winter in the New World. Plymouth, as we know it now, holds many historical links to our fragile beginnings. In 1676, the first Thanksgiving Proclamation was signed by the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts, to set aside a day of special thanksgiving. And, of course, the holiday would not be complete without reading the story of the courtship of Miles Standish.
