Lucky The DogIt was Saturday, February the 3rd and my parents were going to the new liquidation world. I decided I would go to Bray's Pet Store. While my parents were shopping I stayed and played with the puppies (for 2 hours). When my mom came in to get me I actually got down on my knees and begged (honest truth). So we went to a restaurant and discussed the pros and cons. There were more cons than pros but my mother finally caved and we took our little girl home. By the way, she is now a healthy, energetic, extremely intelligent, boisterous, suspicious, over-protective, over-grown lap dog. her breeds: 1/4 german shepherd; 1/4 australian cattle dog; 1/2 border collie. When Lucky was about 1 year old my sister and I were home alone and we heard noise in the bushes outside. Now, usually Lucky is not nice to intruders, but this night the little coward ran and hid under my bed. I phoned the cops and about 3 cars responded. My dad is a cop so they must have felt a little protective. The cops went out and looked around but they didn't find any footprints. Levy’s StoryUnfortunately, Levy had to be put down in June 97. He was tough, no wonder he lasted 18-19 years (surprising for a large dog). When he was about a year old, he was playing on the train tracks and got stuck. No one knew where he was and when a train came by it actually sliced of he leg. After this the vet had to amputate the leg at just above the stifle, so he lived for about 17 years on 3 legs. Then in May of 97 he developed a tumor on the remaining hind leg. This one was malignant but the leg couldn't be amputated because there was no other hind leg. So my grandma had to make the choice to put him down. This was hard on her because my grandpa had died in July 92 and the only other animal left on the farm was a cat. So now she has to live all alone. It struck me hard too, even though I live almost 3,000 km away from them. "Levy" was the dog who made me fall in love with them and influenced my first word, "puppy". |
