Well known Resident of Soper Died Saturday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Estelle Baker, wife of W.F.
Baker, of Soper, were conducted at 4 o'clock Monday
afternoon at the Soper Baptist church. The Rev. Bob Davis,
pastor of the Antlers Baptist church, was in charge of the
service, assisted by the Rev. O.L. Peek, of Stigler, former
pastor of the Soper Methodist Church,and Lynn Browning ,
Church of Christ minister at Hugo. Interment in soper
cemetery was in charge of Jones Funeral home, of Antlers.
Mrs. Baker died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. W.A. Peek, in Ada. She had been in ill health
for about a year and had been undergoing treatment in Ada
for the last several months.
Ada Estelle Isbell was born in Hewitt, Indian Territory,
January 5, 1885, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Isbell,
early residents of the Territory. She was married to W.F.
Baker on December 24, 1903, in McAlester. They lived in
Texas for a short while but most of their residences was in
Choctaw County. The family home has been at Soper since
before statehood.
She joined the Baptist church at Atlas in 1919 and
in more
recent years had her membership in the Soper Church.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Baker. In
addition to the husband and the children she is survived by
ten grandchildren, tow brothers and five sisters.
Sons and daughters are Bailey Baker, and Ellis Baker,
of
Hugo; Glenn Baker, of Soper; Bob Baker, until recently of
Antlers and now of Porterville, California; Mrs. W.A. Peek
of Ada; Willard Baker, of Honolulu, Hawaii; Mrs W.H.
Brown, of San Diego, California; and C.J. Baker, of Clovis,
New Mexico.
Bailey Isbell and Zack Isbell, of Paducah, Texas
are
brothers; and sisters are Mrs. Henry Burris, of Smithville;
Mrs. Joe Van Horn, whose home is in Oregeon; Mrs. Effie
Overstreet, of Tuscon, Arizona; Mrs. Una Grayson; of Los
Angeles, California; and Mrs. Jean LaVallie, of Chicago.
Active pallbeaaarers were Fred Maloney, C.C. Sanders,
Roy Crossett, E.J. Norwood, H.D. Lindsay, and V.V.
Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers were Lon Allen, A.J. McKee,
B.B.
Burrough, D. T. Jones, T.G. Butler, E.M. DeWeese,
Senator Paul Stewart, W.L. Hammock, J.B. Walking,
Woodie Nelson, J.L. Atkins, Ben Wilkerson, O.N. Butler,
Sam Nelson, L.Roy Patterson, and Howard Morris.
