Dear Marion:
The attached picture is safe to download. It has been checked for
virii and was sent to me by a cousin in Conn. It is a picture of
Sampson Jeremiah Isbell and his family. He was the youngest of 13
children of Jeremiah Marion Isbell and his wife Matilda Ann Wade.
He is my grandfather.
The children you see are the 3 oldest: Zula May Isbell McDougald,
1890-1976; Rosa Isbell Thornton, 1893-1973; and my father, Glover
Sampson Isbell, 1896-1971.
My grandfather sent to Grimes County, Texas in late 1896 and then
to Taylor County and Jones County in about 1909. He farmed land
outside of Anson for years. He and his wife, Autha Emmett Pittman
are both buried in Anson.
After leaving Texas with the family as a teenager in 1951, I returned
to live in Ballinger last summer after my retirement.
Most of the names I see are familiar ones and I like your website
although sooner or later you'll want to put dates with pictures and
wills of the Pendletons, there are so many of them. For instance, the
will of one Pendleton you show was an uncle of Pendleton 1806 and
not, as one might suppose, his father.
If you've been in touch with Sarah Coon and if you've been exposed
to the body of work of Miss Emerald Isbell, then there's very little
I
can add. Most of my information came from the work of Emerald
Isbell through Frances Isbell of Madisonville, Texas.
I can tell you more of my side of the family if you're interested.
It
looks like your line and mine are common through Pendleton 1806,
then mine takes off through Jeremiah Marion and yours through
George Pendleton.
Hope you get the picture OK, it's a good one.
Regards,
Gordon Isbell
