In the name of God, Amen:
I, Pendleton Isbell of Pickens District and State of South Carolina,
knowing the certainty of
death and wishing to dispose of such worldly effects as it has pleased
God to give me, I hereby
make this my last Will as follows -
First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Clarkey Isbell
all my land, a negro girl named
Harriet aged about thirteen years of age, and all my household furniture
and every and all the
balance of my property except such as is hereinafter disposed of, during
her natural life.
Second, I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucinda one dollar if called
for within twelve
months after my decease, which I consider to be an equal portion of
my property.
Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Arminda in addition to
what I have given her
heretofore the sum of one dollar if called for within twelve months
after my decease which I
consider will make her portion equal to the rest of my children.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Mariah a bay mare
named Jin, bed and
furniture, a cow and calf, and the Beaureau (sic) at her mother's death.
Fifthly, I give and beaqueath to my daughter Sarah Emiline a sorrel
horse named Lacksley, a bed
and furniture, a cow and calf and the cupboard at her mother's death.
Sixth, I give and beaqueath unto my two sons Sidney Isbell and William
Lawhorn Isbell at the
time of the death of their mother all my lands, it to be divided as
follows, the division line
to commence at a certain ditch on the lower part of the ditch down
to the bend and the same
direction on to the beaverdam creek, commencing back with the upper
part of the ditch up the
branch to the line along the said line to a post oak corner near
the west corner of snow old
field, from thence a due west course to the back line adjoining Berry
Meger, All on the east
and south sides to belong to my oldest son Sidney, that on the opposite
side to Wm. Lawhorn.
They are to have the privilege to settle their lands when they become
of age, but not to
disfurnish my wife Clarkey. I also give to Sidney a bed and furniture
and a bay colt, I also
give to William a bed and furniture and the smith tools.
Seven, I give and bequeath to my youngest Daughter Eliza Almarinda,
a bed and furniture, and at
her mother's death the said girl Harriet.
Eight, the increase of the said girl Harriet and all the remaining stock
of hogs, horses and
cattle, also all the remains of my goods and chattels at my wife's
death to be sol and equally
divided between all my children.
And I also appoint Joberry Maret my administrator this the 21 of June
in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty six.

PERSONALLY appeared before me Capt. David S, Stribling and made oath

was present and seen Pendleton Isbell sign the above ( by making his
mark) as his last Will and
Testament and that Benjamin Maret and Frederick B. Hodges were with
himself subscribing
witnesses to the same.
