Ferrets in Western Australia

Ferrets have been popular in Australia for a long time, though not as pets. Due to the large rabbit problem experienced by farmers in this country ferrets gained wide acceptance as working animals. Almost anyone you meet in Australia (particulaly with a rural background) will have had a friend or relative who has kept working ferrets.

Ferrets have only recently gained wider acceptance as pets. The average person is still amazed that people keep ferrets for pets as they have know them only as working animals kept in hutches in the back yard. Pet ferret owners in WA are thought strange as most people still believe ferrets to be vicious and smelly animals. WAFFS is working hard to change people's attidues to the ferret in WA and reveal the ferret's cuddly side.

Public WA Ferrets

Ferrets are now starting to get more favourable publicity. Recently The West Australian Magazine ran an article featuring WAFFS members. Ferret club life member Dianne Rohowicz was pictured with David and Mischief.

Club member Phillip Langley recently featured along with his ferrets on a segment on the popular television show Talk to the Animals
