Annika
Weyrling
Southern Weyr
Annika
Alias:Nikki
A young woman of indeterminate age, her skin is clear and healthy, despite its rather pale tone for this climate. Her hair is a dark sable, most often shining from a recent wash, and is cut neatly at her chin. Dark brown eyes are deep-set and rimmed with full eyelashes, and she is oft seen peering up at people through those smoky 'lashes. Her mouth is narrow but full, lips a soft pink in color. Save for the darkness of her hair, she is notably pale and small in figure.
Bland clothing slides over an overly thin figure, hanging from narrow shoulders and falling formlessly to mid-thigh. Soft gray is this thin overtunic, the hints of a deep russet glimpsed beneath the large, scooped neck. Loose trous of a darker gray conceal her legs, the fabric thin enough to keep cool even at Southern, but thick enough to withstand the chores of Weyrlinghood. A plain pair of gray sandals finishes the rather ordinary attire, no more outstanding than the rest.
Slight, under-developed frame might cause some to mistake her for younger, but she is in fact [age(v(birthsecs))] old. A fairly simple knot in Southern's colors denotes her new status as a SOW Weyrling. The single strip of interwoven blue specifies: she belongs to blue Terebinth.
ICINFO:
Annika is one of the youngest daughters out of many, many siblings in a rather large, simple holder family. Perhaps the large family could be explained by the rather *small* hold on which she was born: Valley Bend near Southern Boll, which consists more of a few extended families as of any outsiders. She's fiery at times, certainly able to hold her own in the midst of such a large family, and although not necessarily rude, herself, certainly tolerant of it (older /brothers/ in plenty, after all). Valley Bend is a farmer-ish Hold, small enough that they're all out doing the day long working the land, or tending beasts. Which all gave her a notion to join the beastcraft -- to rid her parents of the extra mouth, get out and see a little more of Pern, and keep working with the animals.
As she neared her 17th Turnday, then, she left for the craft. Since either trip would be quite a distance, she chose to visit the Southern Continent's beast/dolphin hall, rather than the main crafthall. You might ask why...Well, To get stories for her family, perhaps. Maybe even a little bit of motivation was present to make 'em proud of their younger sis. And she might be hoping to check out the dolphins and, sure, explore. She hasn't left home all -that- much before, and might prefer to visit a somewhat wilder portion, rather than the more 'civilized' areas of Pern. Just because she's used to being left out in nature, with a small hold like she's known all her life. If you really want to know what she was thinking, you can RP with the girl and ask. It's really a mix of all the above, truth be told.
And then, as if apprenticing to the BeastCraft weren't enough, Nikki was asked by S'bin and Vesoth to Stand for Southern Weyr's gold Lilleth's third clutch. That certainly made her day -- Annika's a bit undercultured, inexperienced in the world, so as much as she's easy-going in general, she also has a tendency to be excited easily by anything she considers new, different, and an adventure. Candidacy certainly qualifies. So, perhaps she sounded a little over-eager at being asked; it is an honor to her home and her craft, in Nikki's books. So she *should* be proud to represent them. And she is. Not to mention delighted. And especially looking forward to telling her family all about these adventures; only one of her many brothers and sisters has Stood before, so she'll get all their attention when she tells her tales of Candidacy.
ORIGIN:Valley Bend, near Southern Boll
RELATIVES:Many, many brothers and sisters, all NPC. Both parents (NPC) alive and well. Various cousins, aunts & uncles, and other extended family members. (Think BIG)
OOCINFO:
Annika's a girl of strong emotions; although she's quite easy-going, affable, and even outgoing, she's not at all afraid to tell someone if she thinks they're being mean, stupid, or generally dislikable. In fact, her temper is quite fiery; when she's really angry, she might start a fight (small size and all) and she may well win. She has a hint of a an accent to her: lyrical, a bit like Terran Irish, and the accent gets thicker when she's upset. It's a pretty good indication of her anger, if the slanting eyes don't do it for you.
When it comes to taking criticism, she's pretty good about it -- *if* she thinks it's being given fairly. (ie, if you say she did a sloppy job fixing her hair, she'll thank you kindly and try to fix it... but if you dare to call her short, she'll likely come at you, swinging. After all, she can't help her being short; she *can* redo her hair.)
When it comes to manners, Annika doesn't really have the best. She'll try, if you remind her. She might even exhibit a hint of chagrin. For the most part, though, she's used to comfort being higher than any dainty manners, and'll take the more comfortable route unless told to do otherwise. It's just what she's used to doing.
Annika is competitive, and may seem pretty fierce in the midst of a race or other event. However, she's also likely to surprise a char or two afterwards, because she's just a good ol' chum at the end of the competition. In fact, she'll offer a genuine "Good job!" once she's not concentrating on her own job.
Nikki grew up in a large family, on a small Hold. (Typical, low angst sort of background). As much as many siblings are apt to fight, they're also incredibly loyal, to the core (at least, in Annika's case). If you insult her, she might take it fairly well. If you insult her family, or her background, she'll probably get really steamed, and may demand you take it back, or threaten to ...well, attack, basically.
And finally, affection. She grew up hugging people as she liked, kissing cheeks at random, discussing sex with her older sisters (within Holdbred limitations, of course), and declaring her affection as she feels it. That's one of the things about having a large, comfortable family. It won't disomfit her at all to say "I love you" to a friend. And if it makes other chars uncomfortable, she might not notice. Or she might be offended by what seems, to *her*, to be very distant behavior. So, as a player, don't be suprised if she tries to be overly affectionate, or thinks your character is cold.
