Shansi
Daughter to Lord & Lady Telgar
Semi-Permanent Resident
Ista Weyr
Threadfall MUSH
Position:
She was just recently a candidate for the last clutch (parented by gold Trinyth and bronze Morpheth); having not Impressed, she remains at Ista, complaining about anything and everything under the gleam of Rukbat.
The ties that bind (notable family members):
Daughter to the Telgar Lord and Lady Holder//Distant Cousin to Menina and Kheri//Cousin to Jiavahn
Description As of June 27, 2000:
Her skin is tanned to a pleasing shade of sun-warmed brown, and smoothly firm along slim lengths of her body. With her head tilted back just *so*, she has a habit of looking down on people in more ways than one, as taller-than-average frame will attest. At least as far as females are concerned, she's gracefully tall. But more outstanding is the downy blonde hair, which falls in silken curls to somewhere around the small of her back when let loose. Each strand shines healthily, tight crinklets and curls adding natural body. Her eyes are a wide golden-brown, framed by richly thick lashes and narrowed in a constantly appraising manner. Aristocratic nose and well-rounded lips complete the portrait, given flair by the sharp definition of tanned cheekbones. Oh, she's a golden girl all right, from the perfect tan to the smoothly trimmed nails to the faintly impatient look which tends to grace her features. And she knows it.
Not to mention the clothes. Extravagent in the way of the well-positioned, and bright with the hint of spoiled flamboyancy, her clothes mark her as what she is before she even opens that perfectly shaped mouth. Of course, the well-kept knot atop one shoulder announces her a Resident to Ista Weyr, and she'll gladly explain the High Reaches badge herself, if you ask: she's a child of the Lord and Lady Holder of Telgar. If anyone dared to ask, they might find that Shansi is 16 Turns, 6 months, 3 days old. If she deigned to answer such a question.
Background:
In the beginning, there was a couple at Telgar, the presiding Lord and Lady Holder. And Pern was dull and unhappy. And then there was ... Shansi! Born third child to them, and first daughter, she's grown up into a ... well, an arrogant, bratty, demanding whelp of a teenage girl. And a beauty, doesn't she know it. At least she's not quite a lush...yet.
Anyway, to sum it up, Shansi finally caused her parents a bit too much embarassment, and was shipped off to live with a distant cousin (Menina) at Ista Weyr. Her parents hoped, in short, that the somewhat more regimented rider lifestyles might rub off, that the Weyr might be more lax about their daughter's haughtiness and hissy fits, and that ... she might get taught a lesson or two by a grumpy rider, perhaps. They sent her to Ista, rather than a closer Weyr, to put more distance between themselves and the snotty girl. For Telgar Weyr would have proven far too close, and besides, the girl's reputation would have beaten her to it. But Ista: now this place was safely distant, and there was that darling cousin...the one who liked the beasts so much...ah, yes, Menina. Menina could surely keep enough of an eye on their brat for them, and she was now a rider besides. Yes... this seemed to be the perfect plan. And so Shansi was packed up (or rather, the belongings she *refused* to leave behind were bundled up), and shipped off to Ista for an ... extended visit. Until she learned to behave better, was kicked out, or ... well, whatever else might happen in an unknown Weyr.
Shansi, of course, believes she's been sent off and abandoned, thinks Ista's dreadfully hot, and is a bit huffy about the entire situation. Not that she'd let on; the girl's an actress at best, and is certainly intending to make it seem she's on a luxurious vacation. And it's more than half true that she believes she'll be able to order others around to her whims. After all, she is the first daughter of the Lord and Lady Holder of Telgar Hold. And that's that.
Okay, perhaps not. It seems other things were to interfere with Shansi's plans of a quiet vacation lifestyle. She would be forced to work -- sometimes. And then, to work a *lot*, once Weyrleader T'rrent's bronze Morpheth decided that *she*, Shansi, should Stand for their current clutch. Thinking to bargain her way out of the current numbweed gathering, and in honor of her home Hold, Shansi (slowly) accepted. Thus, the brat became a Candidate for the current clutch parented by gold Trinyth and bronze Morpheth. Candidacy meant chores; Shansi's nature meant as much shirking as possible. She's not lazy, you see, but she's also not designed for such menial tasks. She's much better at 'managing' others -- which equates, generally, to bossing them around, or trying to do so.
My, but time does fly when you're ... evading chores. Soon enough, those eggs were rocking. Shansi, with much sighing and feigned nonchalance, filed out among the others to watch and wait. And sweat, ugh. Comments were made -- both good and bad, in truth -- on the caliber of this dragonet or that. But eventually a gold was spotted, and the clutch finally gained its approval -- from Shansi. Of course, none of the newly hatched dragons actually went near the bratling, and she clung to some boy's -- Goran's -- hand the whole time. But that doesn't mean she was nervous. Nah. She was just using him for his descriptions of those few hatchlings she couldn't see. Sure.
But, as the sands emptied -- of dragonets, that is -- Shansi and several others, Goran included, remained. Wait. That can't mean...none of the dragonets wanted Shansi? Faranth no. It must mean, instead, that Morpheth was playing games with her, wasting her time, trying to force her to do unnecessary chores. Hah. She should've known -- bronzes never really were meant for Search. Well, that lesson's learned, and Shansi won't be making that mistake again. No, no. Though, if rather reluctantly, she *will* be staying on. Not that she's grown fond of the place, and not that she *couldn't* return home, of course, but... She remains at Ista. Just because she chooses to do so, and that *is* that.
NOTE: Shansi was originially written with a High Reaches Hold background, but (after several months of roleplay) the Threadfall MUSH staff discovered that HR has no Lord and Lady Holder at the IC time; at this point, her information was changed to Telgar. All logs and roleplay still refer to High Reaches. Please excuse this indiscretion.
