Steve's Interpretation of John's (GW Staff) Tequilla Slann
John's Instruction for making Tequilla Slann
1. Get a bottle of Tequila to ensure accuracy.
2. Drink most of said bottle. Note: some say that this step should
be performed last as it greatly interferes with the following steps.
3. Obtain a mage priest. Take a pair of clippers and clip off the
crest. You don't have to be too neat as putty will cover this later on.
Also clip the scepter out of the slann's hand. Neatness does count in
this step either.
4. Using green stuff I modeled the sombrero in two parts.
5. I made a round cookie shape that I on the slanns head.
6. Let the green-stuff cure for a few minutes, then fold up the
edges to make the lip of the sombrero.
7. For the cone of the hat, just make a small dome out of putty and
stick it in the center of the slann's head. This will be on top of the
cookie shaped piece.
8. The poncho was a piece of green stuff that I used the handle of
my hobby knife to roll out like dough.
9. Then I cut a square of putty that would fit the front of the
slain.
10. I painted tassels at the bottom of the poncho rather than
puttying them. If you wanted to model them though just let the green
stuff cure for a few minutes and then use the blade of your hobby knife
to indent the green stuff n the shape of tassels.
11. The bottle was made in two parts also.
12. I rolled a thin snake and cut a segment out that became the neck
and lip of the bottle. This is tricky to attach so I used a small dab of
glue and carefully attached the segment being very careful not to
distort it.
13. For the main bottle portion rolled a larger snake form. I cut a
segment from one end so that it would be flat on one end and taper at
the other end. I attached the tapered end to the bottom on the slann's
hand with another spot of glue.
14. Let it dry for a day and then prime and paint it.
Tips: Use a little water on you fingers and knife and it will keep the
green stuff from sticking to you. Let the different sections of the slann (sombrero, poncho, and bottle) thoroughly dry before moving on the next section. It is very easy to screw up one part while working on another.
When all of the steps are complete you too will have Tequila Mage-Priest
to go forth upon the field.
