James Lynn was born in South Carolina, Dec. 9, 1818, a son ofSolomon and Nancy Lynn. He camein his boyhood with his parents toAppling County where he married and lived wntil about 1855 when he mavedto Ware County. He was married in 1846 to Amy Deen, daughter of Smithand Nancy Deen. She was born in Appling County, July 5, 1823. They hadfive children.
Mr. Lynn lived in the present Manor district of Ware County, wherehe was a highly respected citizen. He and his wife were members ofKettle Creek Methodist Church near Waycross. Mrs. Lynndied June 11,1893, and he died July 7, 1906. They were buried in the cemetery atKettle Creek Church.
He and his oldeat son, David, were Confederate soldiers. Heenlisted at Waresboro Oct. 1, 1861, in Co. "K", 26th Georgisa InfantryRegiment. At the termination of the sixmonths term the enlistments wereform he transferred to Co. "E", 1st Regiment, Georgia Reserves, in thestate militia establishment. The state militia was used in defense ofthestaye only, and saw much servece the last year of the war after the statewas invaded. He was captured in engagements defending Fort Mc Allisternear Savannah, Dec. 16, 1864. He was exchanged a few weeks later and wasat home on furlough at close of the war. He was granted a Confederatepension by the State for his service.
The son, David Lynn, was too young for military service at thecommencement of war, but enlisted in the state militia in 1864 with hisfather. The old family bible record shows the date of his death asaboved stated, but does not show where or how he died.

The Lynn home and plantation was located about two miles west ofHolmesville, the ante-bellum county-seat of Appling, and on SatillaCreek. The family were all members of the Methodist Church, and thefather and the sons were members of the Masonic order, with membership inHolmesville Lodge. Mrs. Lynn died Feb.13,1897, and her husband died July11, 1901. They were buried in the Lynn Cemetery in Appling County;graves marked.
