William C. Newbern moved with his parents to Ware County, Georgia in1823. They lived in the section that is today Pierce County. After theirmarriage, Susanna and William moved back to Lowndes County, Georgia. InLowndes County, william became a successful farmer and public servant. Heentered the Indian wars as a private under Captain Samuel E. Swilley inthe 2nd Regiment Florida Militia from June 16 to December 16, 1837. Helater commanded a company of Lowndes County volunteers in 1838 and becamea Captain of Florida militia for three months in September 1839. He heldthe following positions in the Lowndes County government, Sheriff1838-1840, Justice of the Peace 1845-1849, and Justice of the InferiorCourt 1850-1853.
The Newbern family moved to New River County, Florida about 1856. Williampurchased land that today lies in Bradford County, Florida. He died in1868 on his plantation in Bradford County known as Palestine. William C.Newbern was survived by his wife Susanna and four children.
