About Grandpa Chuck

I live in Holland Michigan which is located on the east shore of Lake Michigan. Holland is the home of the Tulip Festival each year in May. The Holland area is growing community with a total population of over 100,000 which includes Holland City, and Park, Holland, Lakeview townships.

I have four children, six grandchildren, and a lovely wife of 31 years. My hobbies are my grandchildren and my computers! I enjoy web page design and am Ring Master of the Grandparent's Web Ring.  The internet has brought together some old friends and made many new friends for me.

I am computer operator for a local hospital. Prior to that I worked as a retail manger for the largest furniture chain in Michigan for 5 years. Also I worked for General Electric for 25 years and between the two occupations co-owned a Video Store for 8 years. In my younger years I was employed as a projectionist at the Starlight Drive-In in Saugatuck.

I consider myself a Student Of Life and a advocate for children!

I've Always Enjoyed Working With Computers

I have been involved with Computers working as a lead computer operator back when a computer took up a whole room! I have worked with key punch cards, tapes, and disk drives. Now my job is working with a computer network of servers and interfaces.

My first computer was a Commodore Vic 20 and I would spend hours writing programs in basic and saving them to a tape recorder hooked up to the Vic. I wrote and published a software program called the "CBM Bulletin Board System" which was sold in the United States and Canada. It was single line bulletin board that operated with a 300 baud auto answer modem which ran on the VIC, C64, and C128. A later version was written as a low cost TDD program to be used by the hearing impaired as a bulletin board.

I started out on web page developement after viewing my son Richard's Site. Richard had taken courses in HTML Programing and encouraged me to work on a personal home site. I got the "bug" and now have a number of sites up and running. I don't do much HTML Programing. Instead I use three programs "Microsoft Front Page 2000", "Microsoft Front Page Express" and "AOL Press". I want to encouage everyone to get a web page up and running on the internet. This site here on Fortune City is one that I consider my family and children's web site. The links below will take you to my other web sites.
