Table cloth

Communion Cloth Napkins (with pattern)

Wedding Hanky

I'm working on a table cloth using hemstitched linen circles found in my grandmother's cedar chest. I cut out the circles and added a row of single crochet to strengthen the edge. Then I designed the tatting, using a more traditional style, but tatting directly onto the crocheted edge. I used DMC Cordonnet size 40 thread in ecru for the crochet and chains, and in white for the rings.

As it goes with large projects, (for our sanity) we lay them aside occasionally in order to complete a smaller project . Our church has recently completed a new sanctuary, and I decided to make some lace for the cloths that are used in the communion bread baskets. I found some lovely brocade-type napkins from JC Penney in a rich burgundy color and bought a matching thread (#34 Manuela, size 20) for the edging. I designed single shuttle edging (since the napkins measure 17" x 17") for speed and a softer effect.

I originally designed this edging for a hanky exchange using white DMC Cordonnet special, size 100 thread. Then I decided to edge an extra to keep for a wedding hanky.
