Long Distance
A Day Off
I work about 55 hours a week while my wife stays home with our two children. While we both like our "jobs", I know that mine ends when I get home. My wife, however, has tons of things to do simply because some things can't be done during the day (like bathing the children, cooking, cleaning up). We can't go out in the evenings because baby-sitters and homework get in the way. Occasionally, I come home with bath oil, candles, and a dream home magazine and tell my wife to take a day (night) off. I do the child bathing, cooking, cleaning up, everything that she normally does while she relaxes. We both love it. Incidentally, this year we are building the dream house my wife picked 10 years ago. -Anonymous
A Special Reminder
My boyfriend and I met in college but during the summer and christmas break we both go our separate ways. It is so hard being apart. Before I come home during the holidays I always stay about a week with him in his home town. On one of my visits I was busy getting ready to go to the airport and when I went to go get my stuff from his bathroom there was a note stuck to the mirror that said your perfect. IT really made my day. After I arrived home I received a package from him with a booklet he had made. The booklet was a story about our week together. I love it, he drew the cutest pictures and he is just the best. I can always go back and read this booklet and remember the wonderful week I spent with him before summer vacation! -Anonymous
A piece of you
My boyfriend won't be here for most of the summer, and plus we both live in separate towns, so he gave me a sweatshirt of his and a cross that he never took off for two years. It was so sweet. -Lisa
An evening to remember
My husband and I have been married for 4 years come December 17th. But we never had a honeymoon. Plus we have very few romantic encounters at home. Because we have a little girl, who is three years old, and is attached to Daddy. So I left him a note one night on his email, and on his icq, that said how about an evening for the two of us, and just the two of us. No phones, no one knocking at the door, or the baby wanting something. He said yes, and I took care of the necessary planning. It took me a week, but I did it. We went to an inn not far from home, maybe 30 to 45 minutes away. The rooms where so nice and relaxing, we even had a jacuzzi in the room. I of course ran the hot water for it, and he immediately got in. We spent an evening in each other's arms, and the best thing about it was, no interruptions. After our small escape, we went home to our precious daughter. By the way, having grandma to babysit, is the greatest idea of all.

Bear Hug
My sweet heart lives a long way from me we have been chatting on line for several months we call on the phone lots one night she called me quite upset she was having a bad day and needed a big hug I felt helpless. I wish I could be there for her but I couldn't so the next day I went to town I bought a big white teddy bear and a T-shirt for the bear I took it to an air brush shop and had him paint a big heart on it and my ICQ name I sent it with a note that said when you feel alone at night pick up this bear and hold him tight wrap your arms around this bear close your eyes and I'll be there she has with her all the time she said he really helped. -Bandit
Don't give up
I met a guy at work recently but the day I met him, he was leaving to go to Florida. But I live in Illinois. To me it was a total Romeo and Juliet story. The day we met, we both were too shy to speak, but the next week, when he was leaving, he had the courage to ask me for my digits. We talked from ten at night to six in the morning. I told him I was starting to have feelings for him, but he didn't think it would work(distance). But I just received a letter from him and he wrote an e-mail to his cousin telling him how much he cares and misses me. Included with the letter was his pic and a bunch of stars. He told me to put the stars up on my ceiling so every time I look up, we'll be looking up at his stars. Tears started running down my cheeks as soon as I read the first letters to his letter. So my advice to anyone who's in a long-distance relationship, don't give up. Yes a lot of time is going to be involved, but there will be that time when you'll finally meet him/her. -Yumi
Essence Of Surprise
It was the night before my girlfriend and my one year anniversary and I was stuck at college 90 miles away. I knew that I had to do something to try to brighten her day, so I drove to her apartment and left a dozen roses and a card in her car at 12:01 am. She was amazed that I had been there, and I was amazed to get a speeding ticket on the way back home. I guess it's the price of trying to be romantic. The roses did the trick though! -Andrew Van
For Married Couples With Children
The day before a holiday prepare a separate romantic dinner, to be served the night before whatever holiday. Ex., a cornish hen for you and him, mashed potatoes and gravy and string beans. Serve on real china with flute wine glasses and enjoy.

Gifts To Treasure
My girlfriend and I both attend the same college, but for the summer we are far away from each other--she is in Illinois, and I am in Virginia. Before she left for Chicago, I got to spend my birthday with her. She gave me two very special gifts to me. The first was the biggest glow-in-the-dark star from her ceiling. It was in a beautiful frame, and around it she wrote "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight, my wish came true." The second was a collage she made of little sayings and phrases special to us and to our relationship, all surrounding a picture of us. It was also in a beautiful frame. I was dumbstruck when I opened them, they are beautiful and I treasure them very much. Now that we're apart, I look at them, and I can't help smiling, even when the day I'm going through doesn't call for it. All women should seriously consider doing something like this for their men, it really means a lot. -Dan
Homemade Card
My boyfriend is away at boot camp, so I write to him every day. Instead of the same old stationary and store bought cards, I made one. I cut out of magazines, for this idea, words and phrases that described what I love best about my boyfriend. On the back I glued a picture of us together on his last day. I sprayed it with my body spray and put it in an envelope along with a pressed rose. -chrissy
Long Distance Journal
Buy a journal at a bookstore. Write about 5-10 pages about how much you love him/her. Then send it to her. At the end of your passage, ask her to write something, and then send it back to you. Send it back and forth to each other, and when you're finally together, you can read the journal together to remember the time you were apart. -anonymous
Long Distance Turned Real
My boyfriend and I had a long distance relationship throughout our four years of college. After he received a job offer in a city neither of us lived in, he sent me a dozen gorgeous roses with an airplane ticket and a note that read "Let me fall in love with you all over again. Meet me in Dallas the 23rd and 24th." Needless to say, I went to Dallas. -Maggie
Loving Long Distance
My boyfriend and I live 800 miles away. I told him at night to look at Venus (the planet of love!) and that I would be looking there too. This helps let us know we're thinking of each other! -Georgia Peach
Make Their Dreams Come True
My boyfriend and I go to school about 2 1/2 hours apart. One time when I was visiting him, we were talking and he told me that one of his desires was to be in a room (with his girlfriend) lit with a lot of candles. So, anyway, he came to visit me one time when he finally got off work. I had the whole thing planned. He came and picked me up and we went straight to dinner. Right before we left I went and called the girls that lived across the hall from me. They went to my room and lit the 40 candles that I had spread sporadically through the room. When we walked up the stairs and into the room he had the biggest smile on his face. He saw the candles, the bottle of wine, and the single red rose lying on the pillow. It was such a great night and we will never forget it. -Juls
Remember Me?
I had been out of town for more than a month and my first anniversary with my boyfriend was coming up. I decided to surprise my boyfriend by not telling him that i'm coming back. I had a friend of mine call him up to our favorite meeting point saying that she had a letter of mine to deliver to him. I got there fifteen minutes before my boyfriend and sat in a position so that I could see him coming in but it would be hard for him to see me - and even if he did see me he would have a tough time recognizing me cuz I had a new hairdo and new sunglasses. When my boyfriend came in and sat down, I let him wait for a couple of minutes. When he started getting impatient, I snuck up behind him, nibbled his ear and whispered "Remember me?" He turned around and to this day he swears that it was the most pleasant surprise of his life. We had lunch then we went to his place. I closed the blinds and turned off the lights and lit a scented candle. Then I massaged him with perfumed love oils. Need I say he loved it?!! -Ujala
Romance In Marriage With Kids
Bringing up kids can take a lot out of you. Arrange with a close friend or relative to watch your kids for an entire weekend. Call your wife during Friday afternoon and let her know you have special plans for her. pick up the family, drop off the kids. As you drive off (with wife) ask her if she wouldn't mind if you took her out to eat. Have something cheap. It doesn't matter,it's just the two of you! Drive to a movie, let her pick the flick. Feed her popcorn, don't let her feed herself. Drive around afterwards. Let the night stretch out. During the weekend wake up late together and simply enjoy your quiet time together. -Robert Velasco
Secret Notes
My girlfriend and I get to see each other every 17-18 days. She is in Pa and I am in Ky. It seems so hard at times to be apart. I leave little love notes in hidden places for her to find as she runs upon them I know that it is not much but it makes us both feel good. I have also found another way to try to keep the romance alive is to be there for them where you are there with them or 500 miles away. -Stephenjoe
Shakespeare In Love
When reading literature, notice romantic passages that would be appropriate to read to him or her. Then do it in your softest voice over the phone or in person. -GreenLeah
Spice up your relationship
I have been married five years and wanted to put some spice back into my marriage, so I rented a hotel room for the weekend and got a babysitter for our 3 year old daughter and took my husband away. I packed a mystery bag with special momentos from our marriage like the out fit I wore on our honey moon, our champagne glasses from our wedding, intimate games , books we could read together, finger food, oils , lotions and candles. I took him out and shared the most intimate weekend that you can imagine. It definitely brought back passion and romance to our marriage. It was almost like dating again. The passion was unbelievable. He was in tears because it was so special to him that I had planned this wonderful weekend get away for us. We feel in love all over again. Try this if you are ready to go places you have never gone with your spouse. It is wonderful to the mind, body, heart and soul!!! -Angellady
Surprise Day Trip
I set up a baby-sitter to take the kids for a day during the week. The night before I told her they'd pick them up and take them for a couple hours to herself. The next day, I left a note (and $1) to get a cup of coffee. Secretly I took the day off and met her at the coffee place. She was thrilled, and off we went for a day trip. She appreciated that I took care of all the details, and she didn't have to think about anything but having fun! -Kevin Messerschmidt

Sweet Music
My special love had always wanted me to sing to him but I was too embarrassed to. Since i couldn't be with him on Valentine's Day (because he lives in Canada) I called him and sang to him "My Valentine"... he almost cried. And although it wasn't much, it meant so much to him that I made the effort. And it meant so much to me that it made him so happy. It is the simple things that count. -Sarah
This was for Valentines Day!
My boyfriend had, for 2 weeks, been keeping what he was gonna do for me for Valentines a BIG secret. He lives in California and I live in Virginia. I was expecting him to call me on Friday to say good night and that was about it. I get the call, as I am sitting out talking to my roommate, and he says that a friend is bringing my first part of my Valentines over. The door bell rings and he is standing at the door talking to me on a Cellular phone. I scream and about drop the phone. He had come out to spend the weekend with me and spoil me to death. He hands me 6 red roses, kisses me and tells me that he loves me and that HE is my Valentines present for the weekend. I was SO surprised! I love him more than anything and I KNOW how very much he loves me. -Traci
Valentine's Day
My boyfriend and I had a long distance relationship before I moved here to Chicago. Since the distance kept us apart, the times that we did spent together meant alot. This past year for Valentine's Day, we couldn't be together so we planned that he would go to New York to be with me the weekend before Valentine's Day. Since we were celebrating Valentine's Day early, I wanted to make it really special and romantic. I started planning everything the night before he was to fly in from buying a dozen roses to making a chocolate dessert. I reserved a hotel room where I set up a candle lit dinner for two, set up candles to make it more romantic and covered the bed with rose petals. I had told him that we were meeting some friends for dinner. I was already at the hotel waiting for him. When he came to the house, my sister gave him a single rose and the directions to the hotel that I had left for him. He loved and it was a wonderful night and a memorable Valentine's Day! -Anonymous
Wish upon a star
On a nice, clear, evening take your love outside and look at the star filled sky. Pick a star together and make sure the both of you can find it. From then on whenever the two of you are apart all you have to do is look up at "your" star and it will remind you of your love. -Michelle
Without the Kids
If you have children, spontaineous romance can be hard. Make an appointment with your mate for you to spend quality time together. First, you have to get rid of the kids (send them to Grandma's or to a friends), then you have to start the romance! Draw a bath and fill it with oils and rose petals. Light the bathroom with candlelight and make sure soft romantic music is playing softly in the background. You can opt to read a romantic novel to each other or just talk! Not about the kids or work, just you and he/her. Dry each other off and make your way into the living room and have the wine or champagne chilling and the grapes, peaches, or strawberries waiting for you. You can leave the rest up to your imagination. I bet you won't even miss the kids that night! -Poste
