My Journey

I walk along a meadow, full of the spring time grasses.
I gaze upon some butterfies who seems to lazily fly along.
I ask the beautiful butterfly, why do you fly in masses?
"We must get to our distiny, while we are still strong".

I walk on down towards the river, and behold in front of my eyes,
A beautiful hawk, with his golden beak and red tail feathers a shine.
I wondered what it would be like, up there in those skies.
I saw him look down on me, as if to say, "You're going to be just fine".

A peacefullness came over me and up the river, I carried on my way,
And again I saw another wonder, a trout beginning her climb.
I asked if she needed help, I would carry her the rest of the way,
She told me NO, that the work would pay off, later babies I will find.

I happened upon a pair of coyotes trotting towards their home,
They stopped and I asked them "Are your new babies still in their den?"
They said to me "Some men had come and taken them and now we are all alone."
I teared at just the thought of loosing a child; that should have never been.

The fox family were busy playing with thier youngsters near by,
I did not want to disturb them, for it was their family time.
For if I would have made a noise, they would have been to shy.
I felt there is no use in scareing them, so I carried on, they'd be fine.

As I was getting closer to the woods, walking towards me, three doe,
They stomped their feet at me, at first, untill their knew who I was.
I spoke to them in a really soft voice "I am your friend, not your foe."
They looked alittle concerned, it was the bee around their heads that was a-buzz.

I stood still and let them pass and behind them did come,
A skunk so big and fluffy, but I did keep my disstance, just in case.
He saw I was a man and went back to where he came from.
He knew I would not harm him or he would let me have it with his mase.

So as I walk slowly into the woods, I came across a huge majestic buck,
He stood- fast, and stood real tall, like that of a kingly beast.
I asked him "How can you defend yourself for your antlers you did shuck?"
He said he was not afraid of ME , He knew of my heart, to say the least.

I watched as he went over the hillside and dissapeared from sight,
I wondered then how could I be so stupid for so many years before.
How could I have been so blinded not to see that hawk in flight,
Now to see an animal and talk to them is no longer just folklore.

I wasted so many precious years, blinded and now I can see,
Mother Earth DOES give us, whatever that we need.
To look up to Father Sky and to see the hawk flying free.
Mother Earth supplies her animals, including us, She does go on to feed.

Why can't we then, live together, in harmony with animals and such,
Instead the man destroys the land and kills off all her animal kind.
They take for granted, it's there for them, but there is not that much!
But if you stop and let the spirits in, then you will come to find.

If they could just look into their eyes and see what I have seen,
A spirit screaming out , a pain is in its heart, possibly an ending?
If we could just imagine how wise and where they have been,
I talk of not just animals but plants and trees too, its time for defending.

I enjoy the walks with the spirits and to hear what they have to say,
To connect to the other side and reflect on the peacefullness again.
How great it must have been, before white men, to live the Indian way,
My wish is to open up their eyes, so, this journey, I must now begin.
