Make a Map

Show Where Your Georges Have Been!

In case you don't have access to map software here are some easy step-by-step instructions for making your own hit map using MS Word 97 and Mapquest to make an image map of your own.  At Mapquest, select: Online Maps, then enter information for the area you want -- a metropolitan area or state.
  1. When the map comes up, right click (or left click if your mouse is a southpaw) and select "save as" give it a name to save it to either a floppy disk or whatever file folder you use to store your images on your hard drive.
  2. Open MS Word and select: Insert, then Picture, then From File; next go to where you saved the map image and double click on it to place it in your Word document.  By dragging on one of the corners, you can easily make your map picture larger.
  3. Next, right click on the image and select Edit Picture.  Use the drawing toolbar to select AutoShapes, then click  "Callouts" and select the callout shape you want.  Instead of your mouse pointer, you'll see a tiny cross hair, click once to set it, you can move it around later.  Format the font size, style, and margins for your callout (same as you would for a Word document) and type your text.
  4. Next, using the 4 way cross hair over the image, position the callout on your map -- you'll notice a little yellow diamond shape at the end of the callout tail which stays where it was originally -- to reposition that, put your mouse pointer directly on it and move it to the location you want.  Keep repeating the step above until you get all your locations identified.
  5. To save your changes:  Go to File, and select Close and Return to Document.  Your changes are in the image but be sure to give your document a name and save it before you close it !!

  6. When you want to add more hit locations to your map all you have to do is return to the document, and pickup at #3 above.
