Shoemaker Family of Hardy Co, WV.

This is "on-going" research about the George Shoemaker Family of Hardy Co.,West Virginia. Evidence has been very hard -to-come-by on George. It seems there were three Georges in or around the Hardy Co. area during the 1800s . "Old George", who ended up in the Purgettsville,WV. area, with alot of his descendants still living there ,his son George, who was wounded during the civil war , and my George. My Georges birth date was taken from the 1850 census(Hardy Co.), but he was missing from the 1860 , his family was still listed. The "Death Index" of Hardy Co. shows a George Shoemaker death in April 1857. With no other information avail., I am assuming this is my George . I have talked with other "Shoemaker" researchers about their Georges, but can find no gaps in their history to explain the presence of my George in Hardy Co. In the 1850 census, my" George "is shown as birth in WV., It is thought this George may be from the Rockingham Co.,Va. "Shoemakers"who came through the Hardy Co. area while migrating to Ohio, but with the Courthouse in Harrisonburg, Va. being burnt during the Civil War, there are no records to be found , at least, not yet. Thanks for taking the time to look through this site, any thoughts or comments are welcome.
