bulletDavid WARD was born on 11 May 1797 in Edgefield Dist., SC. He died on 14 Jan 1858 in Walton Co., FL. I am not sure that Daniel = David. The Daniel that was a s/o John WARD was still living in 1867 according to the WARD/LADD deed. I have not seen that David has been linked to Daniel anywhere. David was not found in the 1860 census with his family & according to Deborah B., Rutha's grave marker says he died in the CW. That David = Daniel is based primarily on a 1840 Henry Co., AL census trans-scription which shows "Daniel (David) WARD" as head of household; the actual census only shows Daniel and I suspect the transcriber made the connection. David WARD was in Walton Co., FL in the 1840 census. The death certificate of Sarah WARD lists her father as "Bud", b. SC. (DB)
The Henry Co., AL marriage record lists him as David. David WARD fought in the same Company as Elijah in the Fla. Indian Wars. Bounty land records list DOB which proves David does not = Daniel!
Ruth's pension application: David 6"1" in height, black hair, black eyes (left eye useless), & occupation farmer. Married at her father's house by James Ward, minister

David WARD of Walton Co., FL and his service in the Indian Wars 1837 & 1838. This information coupled with additional information from Deborah re the widow's pension application of Ruth WARD, wife of David, has to be considered a real breakthrough in Deborah's research. This pension was first filed 26 June 1893 while Ruth was living at Chumuckla, Santa Rosa Co., FL. One affidavit filed by Ruth stated: "David Ward was Born in Edgefield Dist South Carolina and at the time of entering service was about 28 years of age 6 ft 1 in height black hair also black eyes Left eye useless occupation farmer Enlisted at Yellow River Fla Walton Co. Rcd 80 acres of Land But _____ and all other papers have been lost. Ruth Ward born Edgefield Dist SC the 14th Day of Oct 1803 there never was any application made for pension until May 1893. David Ward Died at Yellow River Walton County and at the time of his death there was present several. Jas Goodwin and J. M. M. Enfinger and others who are now living." Another affidavit stated that she & David were married at her father's house in Henry Co., AL 10 Jun 1820 by James Ward, minister of the Gospel. (This date as well as other places it was shown in the papers does agree with the Henry Co. record of 26 Mar 1826, but her age probably accounts for the discrepancies) Her daughter Harriet HOPKINS stated in an affidavit that David died 14 Jan 1858 and that she was present. Since no records or witnesses to the marriage were available, James & Narcissus GOODWIN stated David & Ruth did indeed live together as husband & wife. Ruth died 24 Sep 1899. I wonder if there is a story behind the "useless left eye?"

"I don't remember if I mentioned to you or not that I have a copy of the deed showing the Wards selling their property in Walton Co., FL dated 26 Oct 1878. Sellers were listed as: Ruthy WARD; Zacharia WARD, and his wife, Sarah WARD; Melita INFINGER; Rubin HOPKINS and wife, Harriet (Ward) HOPKINS; all these of Santa Rosa Co., FL; Jackson WARD, and his wife Brazilia (Brown) WARD; David WARD, and his wife, Mary; these of Walton Co., FL. Property, now located on Eglin AFB property, was sold to Pharis
Permenter of Walton Co. for $150.00 (200 acres). Wit. by: C. H. Lowe & P. Permenter."
