She lived each and every day with love, determination and zest. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her. When we were little, she devoted herself to taking care of Daddy, Tommy and I completely. She sewed, baked, cleaned and saved so that we all could have a better life one day.
When she and Daddy bought the ranch, she worked along beside him to improve it. When Daddy started his construction business, again, she worked with him to make it prosperous. During all this time, she worked actively in her church, the community, the Eastern Star, the Order of the Rainbow Girls, and all school activities that Tommy and I were involved in.
Just at the time, she could have sat back and relaxed, she was diagnosed with cancer of the breast. They did surgery and removed her breast on a Friday, a week later on Saturday she was released from the hospital and that night attended her high school class reunion and the next morning she went to church. When she was diagnosed with cancer again, she met the fight head on just as she had all of her life. Her courage was an inspiration to us all. She had spent her entire life giving to others and I know that at her funeral she looked down from heaven and knew that all was appreciated and how much she was loved. No one in life is perfect, but I would not have traded my mother for anything else on earth.
She had the gift of life which she gave to us and all who knew her. I hope that Tommy, Whitney, Thomas, myself and all future generations have the strength of character and love that she had. With all my love, D'Auan.

Mrs. Dorothy Campbell King, a lifetime resident of Titus Co, died 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 1988 at Titus Co Memorial Hospital. She was born March 20, 1934 in Mount Pleasant, TX. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church, interment in the Masonic Cemetery. Officiating ministers will be the Reverend Jim Ross and Jamie Duncan. She is survived by her husband, Bruce O. King, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Virgle Campbell, son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Linda King, daughter, D'Auan King, granddaughter, Whitney King, one brother, Sam Campbell, one sister, Virgie Godek all of Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. King was co-owner and founder of Diamond K Corporation, R & K Energy Company, Diamond K Insurance Company, and co-owner of Diamond K Poultry and Beef Ranch. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1952. She is a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past member of the Pilot Club, past president of the United Methodist Womens Association. She was a member of the Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Bates-Cooper-Weems Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
