A slap and a loud squeal on May 13, 1921, announced to the world that Delmar had a new citizen Oliver Lewis Cook, Jr. Graduating from high school there in 1939, he come to work for the Company in October of that same year.

His first job with the Company was as an operator in Drawtwist. Later, he became an inspector, first in Area A, then Area B.

In July of 1942, Uncle Sam called Oliver into military service. He was overseas about a year, in the Pacific Theatre, and was attached to an ammunition ship as a gunner's mate 1/c. During this time, Oliver had several unusual experiences. The most vivid one of which was the time his ship, with 5,500 tons of ammunition below decks, rode out the now famous Okinawa Typhoon, "It was like sitting on a hot teakettle", Oliver told us.

Returning to work in March, 1946, as a scheduling clerk in Polymer and Spinning, he received a promotion to a foremanship on "B" Shift in Area B on April 28, 1947. Parents: Oliver Lewis , Sr. COOK .
