bulletCarl Dietz was born on 2 Jan 1883 in Germany. He died on 11 Feb 1960 in New York, New York.

Carl Dietz, Grandpapa, to me, was Murdear's second husband. He was the only Grandfather I ever knew. When I think of Grandpapa, I think of his bald head and his pipes and cigars. He always smelled of tobacco. Back then it smelled pretty good.
Grandpapa was born in Germany. He came to the US to excape one of the wars, I forget which one, probably WWII. When I was a child, he tried to teach me German words but to no avail.
Many years after he died, I lived and worked for 3 years in Germany. Grandpapa would have been proud. By the time I left, I was speaking well enough to tell jokes in German.
Grandpapa always spent his vacation with us on Buntin Hill, except when he and Murdear went to Germany for vacations.
As Grandparents, the two of them spoiled me. They always brought presents when they came to visit.
When I was about 5 years old we spent our Christmas in New York. I eventually went to New York many times during the summer to visit Grandpapa and Murdear. The story was that Grandpapa tried to be an actor but didn't make it. German accents weren't too popular at that time. When I knew him, he managed a huge apartment complex in Q. Gardens. When he eventually retired, he and Murdear were given a free Apartment to live in. It was the same one Mama and Daddy had lived in before the war.
After Grandpapa died, he was burried in Aliceville and Murdear spent her last days with us on the farm. She eventually died of a stroke. That was the only time I ever saw Daddy cry.
