His favorite subject is history and his color is the ever popular blue. Although Bruce has very red hair, you wouldn't know he had a temper for he is very quiet. BRUCE O. KING. Born in Pittsburg, TX, in July 1928, Bruce King graduated from Pittsburg high school in 1944 at the age of 16. He began his pipeline career a short two years later as a welder helper with O.R. Smith Company. King worked as a welder helper and welder for the next four years with Eastern Pipeline, Talco, TX and R.H. Fulton before entering the United State Army in October 1950.
He served in Korea for two years as a staff sergeant. Upon returning to the States, King went back to the pipeline as a welder for O.R. Burden and for the next 20 years he worked as either a welder, foreman, superintendent, inspector, or consultant for such companies as Pacific Engineering, Bechtel Corp., Ford, Diamond S. Inc., Williams Brothers, Trunkline Gas, Ross Powers, Harbert, Morrison Construction, Somerville, C.S. LeNoir, and C.E. Wilson.
In 1970, King organized his own company, Bruce King Construction. The company was reorganized in 1977 under the name Diamond K Corporation, and King is currently the president. Diamond K is diversified as a general, utility, pipeline, and highway contractor. The company is presently engaged in the clean-up and rehabilitation of Southern Florida following Hurricane Andrew, an undetermined amount of water lines in East TX, and various other construction projects throughout TX.
In 1992, Diamond K Corporation was the eighth largest user of steel products in the United States. King incorporated R & K Energy, Inc., in 1981 and serves as Senior Vice President. He is also the vice president for Fabricantes de Acero of Mexico. King is a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, and a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He is a present trustee of the Tennison Memorial Methodist Church, and the past chairman of the board of directors for the American National Bank.
King was honored in the 1989 "Who's Who in U.S. Executives." Other awards include the AGC Award for Excellence in Construction, and the Titus Co Bi-Centennial Award for Outstanding Titus Co Farmer-Rancher. He is also a member of the TX Branch Associated General Contractors, the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, the U.S, Chamber of Commerce, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. King makes his home in Mt. Pleasant, TX, with his wife, Martha, on his Diamond K Ranch, a cattle and poultry producer. He enjoys horseback riding and dancing and is the father of two, Tommy, vice president of Diamond K Corporation and D'Auan King McNeel, secretary/treasurer of Diamond K Corporation.
