He was a member of the Callaway Historical Society and also a member of the North Bay Clan of Lower Muscogee Indians. He enjoyed Bible study, gardening, and knife making. Clyde Jones, the 3rd mayor of Callaway said, "He was a mighty fine man and a good friend. He was as good a man as I've ever known."

Thelma Locke was the perfect wife and mother. And she also cut hair not just for her family, but for hundreds of other folks, too.

She cut everyone's hair. Her two daughters', her son's, her husband's. And hundreds of Titusville women also benefited from the snip of her scissors.

Locke, owner and operator of Jerry's Beauty Boutique on Garden Street for 25 years, died Wednesday of lung cancer. She was 66.

``She could do anything with hair,'' said Henry Locke, her husband of 48 years. ``She had a lot of customers.''

Locke bought her Titusville shop in 1970. She and her husband had moved there in 1962, after he retired from a 20-year stint in the Marine Corps.

No matter where the military took them, Locke set up a booth, her husband said. Doing hair was something she loved and it earned extra money for the family, he said.

``I don't think she had an enemy in the world,'' her husband said. ``She wouldn't disagree with anything anyone said. She was a lady from the word `go."'

Locke said he will remember his wife best, however, for her other abiding qualities. He
called her ``a family maker, who devoted her whole life to her home and family... . She didn't even like fancy restaurants.''

She is also survived by daughters, Jo Ann Webb of Orange Park and Judy Ann Bernstein of Titusville; son Henry Locke Jr., also of Titusville; sisters, Margaret Orend of Fort Pierce, Allie Griggs of Red Level, Ala., and Durline Hulion of Crestview; seven grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.

North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville is handling arrangements. Parents: Patterson.
