bullet William I PEEBLES was born on 7 Jul 1635 in Kilconquhar Parish, Fife, Scotland. He died about 5 Aug 1695 in Resided Wynoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia. William Peebles married Judeth, a ward of John Drayton, about February 3, 1662-63. Information on William is scant because most county records are missing. His inheritance, the patent to Captain David Peebles is of interest. Few early Virginia Patents show the the name of the plantations. Bon Accord, locally called "Bonniecord" for 300 years, has been claimed as the original sect of the Poythress family, but they have never found the patent, and records do not uphold them.

On December 18, 1688, John Poythress at Marrying Christian, the daughter of Elizabeth Peebles, sued Thomas Busby for infringement on his land. No deeds remain for the period. No mention in the remnants of the Charles City county Record Books. But it is clear the Bon Accord passed to the Poythress family through John's marriage to Christian.

Captain Peebles Plantation named Bon Accord, may have been taken from a city in the northeast part of Scotland, at Aberdeen, the city of Bon Accord. Because there were Peebles their before 1600.

By 1800 the plantation was divided and Aberdeen built. The Cooke family owend both places they and the Poythress family insist that they were never one tract. But Bon Accord today has 631 of its original 833 acres, and Aberdeen has 378.

In 1670 and 1673, William Peebles, I obtained 3 patents, two tracts not connected and a third patent for the total acreage of those two. They were about 5 miles south of Bon Accord, on the headwater of the Birchen Swamp. As late as 1820's small parts of this tract were owened and lived on by William's Great-grandchildren.

How long Judeth, his first wife lived is not known, but she is probably the mother of William Peebles II.

Whether Elizabeth, in the 1690's was a second or third wife is not certain. She was undoubtedly the mother of Henry, William Youngest son, and she would seem to be the Widow Busby.

David, born about 1683, second son of William I by his second wife whose name is unknown, with Dudley and Hubbard connections.

bullet William II PEEBLES was born in 1670 in BURLEIGH, PRINCE GEORGE, VA. He died on 12 Oct 1727 in Virginia. Presumably the son of Judeth, was the only one of the family line in Prince George who did not sign his name. He made his mark (W). He inherited Burleigh, 150 acres of his father's land on the west side of the Birchen Swamp and died there.

On October 12, 1727, he patented 200 acres on the south side of the Black Swamp in Surry (later Sussex) , and on May 15, 1738, gave half of it to his son Thomas and sold the other 100 acres to William Adams in 1740.

The undated will of Thomas Busby of Wyanoke Parish, Prince George was probated at the court in Merchants Hope on April 9 1723, by the widow ans Exx, Mary Busby. Henry Peebles was named Executor but did not serve. Resideu of Witnesses to the will were William Peebles, II signing his mark, and William Peebles, Jr. who signed. The latter provided the will in court. Thomas Busby and Henry Peebles seem to have been Half brothers.

William was a Quaker and his Plantation (still called Burieigh today) gave site and name to the first Quaker meeting south of the James River. His wife must have been a Hamlin ( the first Halin in Virginia was a Stephen). The Hamlin which married William II had three sons.
