The eleven year Irish rebellion against English occupation had wrangled the entire decade. It was early in this decade that Teige Reagh was born to Teige Reagh, the O'Dowd. . . . Young Teige must have grown up quite apart from his father in these times of war, since his father's main duty as th O'Dowd was military. . . . he freely ran the grassy hills of Connaught (Ireland)_ with his brothers and sisters. . . . Teige being ten to twelve, made his a candidate to be sent on the two-month-long dangerous trip of banishment, across the ocean, to the American colonies. There is no proof just my guess, that Teige was twelve years old and accompanied by his ten year old brother, John. Dorothy and Darby were to remain in Ireland with their mother. Teige Sr was either dead or was sent to another country's army. . . the boys destination was the Virrginian plantations to serve in slave labor. Somehow they came to be on the Easter shore, safe and sound. . . . for instance, Dathi Oge, who was to become the O'Dowd (the cousin who married in 1656) may have been older that Teige, yet seems to have escapted even temporary exile. Teige and John were settled in Virginia on the southern end of the Eastern shore where they found a good climate, plenty of food, kind Christians and few problems with the Indians. . . . Accomack was the name given to the Eastern shore by the Indians. The shore of mainland Virginia, of mainland Maryland and of the Eastern Shore are known as tidewate because of the phenonomen created by the salt water of the Cheasapeake and the tides of the ocean. . . . Apparently it took five years or more to get the official survey and deeds duely recorded. My far reaching guess is that Teige was one of the "settlers" that, Ambrose London was granted four hundred acres for transporting himself, his wife and three daughters, and three unnamed settlers. Ambrose London's three daughters were Mary, Ruth, and Abigail. Their only son had died prior to their moving from Virginia's Eastern Shore to Maryland. According to the Coventry records and Maryland Historical Society's records off the originial was bron to Teage and Mary on the 4th day of January in 1668 1642 - It is estimated that Teage Riggen of Maryland was born this year in Ireland based on his marriage date of 1667 and his wife's birthdate of 1644.
